Comparison of Power-to-X-to-Power technologies for energy storage in 2030

open access: yes, 2020
The energy transition is advancing rapidly, and the Dutch electricity grid is changing with it. Increasing shares of variable renewable energy sources create mismatches between electricity supply and demand. These mismatches create a need for large-scale

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

E-Fuels: A Comprehensive Review of the Most Promising Technological Alternatives towards an Energy Transition

open access: yesEnergies
E-fuels represent a crucial technology for transitioning to fossil-free energy systems, driven by the need to eliminate dependence on fossil fuels, which are major environmental pollutants.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Economically optimal CO2 utilization via flexible chemical production facilities

open access: yesSustainability Science and Technology
Utilizing carbon dioxide (CO _2 ) to produce methanol, by combining it with hydrogen sourced from renewable-powered electrolysis, or urea, by combining it with ammonia made from this electrolytic hydrogen, provides an opportunity to monetize CO _2 ...

Techno-economic potential of plasma-based calcium looping for CO2 capture and utilization in power-to-liquid plants

open access: yesJournal of CO2 Utilization
Sector coupling plays a crucial role in reducing CO2 emissions. The usage of renewable energies in Power-to-Liquid (PtL) processes is one option to link the energy, transport and chemical sectors.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
