エネルギー源としての電力需要の増大に対処すべく,電力技術全般にわたって新技術の確立が要望されている。電力輸送部門も大容量,超高電圧化の傾向が見られ,電力ケーブル絶縁構成に対しても従来の天然セルロース紙に代わる低誘電率,低誘電損の材料の開発が急務とされ,これに適した合成高分子の出現がきわめて注目されてきた。本稿はこれら電力ケーブル絶縁構成に対するソシァルニーズの現状と合成高分子の高電界下の電気物性を展望し,それらの技術的問題点を探索し,電気工学者から見た合成化学者への注文事項をまとめたものである。高電圧電気絶縁の特異性とこれらに合成高分子を適用するに際しての基本的理解のために本稿が役だてば幸いである。
