Characteristics of titin in strength and power athletes

European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2003
The purpose of this investigation was to identify characteristics of the muscle protein titin in different athletic populations with increased levels of strength and power relative to non-athletes. Subjects fell into one of four groups: (1) non-athletes (NA) ( n=5), (2) weightlifters (WL) (n=5), (3) powerlifters (PL) (n=5), (4) sprinters (S) (n=5).

On-Eye Power Characteristics of Soft Contact Lenses

Optometry and Vision Science, 1998
The power of a soft contact lens on the eye is a function of its off-eye power, the manner in which the lens flexes on the eye, lens hydration changes, and the corneal topography. In the present study, we used a high illumination keratometer, which allowed us to obtain front and back surface keratometric readings when the lenses were in position on the ...

The characteristics and power requirements of spinning frames - II

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1940
THIS PAPER is a continuation of the investigation on the characteristics and power requirements of spinning frames presented at the AIEE North Eastern District meeting, Springfield, Mass., May 3–5, 1939, and published in this volume of AIEE Transactions, pages 1–4 (January section).

Wreath Powers and Characteristically Simple Groups

Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1962
A group G is called characteristically simple if it has no characteristic subgroups other than itself and the unit subgroup. For brevity, we call such groups -groups; we also use to denote the class of all characteristically simple groups.

Power-System Voltage-Recovery Characteristics

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1939
WITH the increased use of protector tubes, a thorough knowledge of the recovery voltages to which they may be subjected has become highly desirable. The current range over which a tube can be expected to function successfully is necessarily dependent on the voltage recovery characteristics of the system in which the tube is applied.

DISTRIBUTION CHARACTERISTICS OF SPECTACLE LENS POWERS

Optometry and Vision Science, 1969
ABSTRACT Attention is drawn to the distribution pattern of spectacle lens powers. Several authors showed that 0.25 and 0.75 diopter powers are usually less well represented than 0.50 and 0.00 diopter powers. Some authors' opinions about this phenomenon arc given.

Explaining the characteristics of the power (CRRA) utility family

Health Economics, 2008
AbstractThe power family, also known as the family of constant relative risk aversion (CRRA), is the most widely used parametric family for fitting utility functions to data. Its characteristics have, however, been little understood, and have led to numerous misunderstandings.

Power characteristics of surface aerators

Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 2010
AbstractBACKGROUND: The hydrodynamic conditions of a surface aeration system can be characterized by interpreting the power consumption of the impeller. Power consumed by aeration tanks depends on the geometries of the impeller and tank, which is generally denoted by the power number.RESULTS: The various geometric and dynamic parameters affecting the ...

Characteristics of a Power Station Boiler

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 1994
An experimental investigation of the flow patterns in a model of a power station boiler has been carried out under isothermal conditions, to produce data for computational fluid dynamic code validation. Measurements were made in three dimensions on a single swirl burner in isolation, in two dimensions on a bank of 12 burners in a 4 × 3 grid and in the ...
