New Approach to Power Convertor Circuits

IEE Journal on Electric Power Applications, 1979
The technique of `shorting-coil' switching proposed in this paper provides a novel method of static power conversion. It overcomes the restrictions imposed by the voltage/current ratings of the available power, semiconductor devices and conventional convertor circuit configurations.

Power System Convertor Harmonics

International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 1982
A brief outline of convertor harmonic theory is given. The paper also describes the non-linearity which generates the harmonics in large convertors. A summary is given of the recent work carried out by the author and colleagues on the calculation of harmonics in non-ideal convertors with both ac and dc impedance represented.

Issues in boundary control [of power convertors]

PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2002
State plane analysis is used to study large-signal properties and control strategies for DC-DC power converters. A general load line is defined and interpreted. The concept of a switching boundary is convenient for generalizing hysteretic controls. Boundaries are classified according to their local dynamics.

A monolithic signal isolator (for power convertors)

Proceedings, Fourth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2003
The design and construction are described of a monolithic isolator, a two-port device designed to pass information across an isolated boundary for use in power convertor applications. Among its features are: high-voltage galvanic isolation blocking; passive sensing capability; wide dynamic range; large signal linearity; 1% precision; a large-signal 3 ...

Commutation phenomena in a static power convertor

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1964
A systematic experimental and theoretical study was made of the effect of various inherent and extraneous circuit parameters on the commutation oscillations and on the period of commutation overlap in a static power convertor. The initiation of oscillations by a voltage jump occurring across a convertor device at the start and at the end of commutation

Modified switched power convertor with zero ripple

Proceedings of the 32nd Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003
A modified power conversion scheme suitable for switched mode converters which addresses the problem of output ripple without incurring an appreciable loss of efficiency is presented. An analog controlled current source is used to inject a current into the load which is equal and opposite to the ripple current due to the switching circuit.

Vibratory power convertor systems

Proceedings of the IEE Part C: Monographs, 1962
A brief description of the underlying principles involved in vibratory power convertor systems is given, and then formulae are derived for use in system analysis and design. These consist of expressions which enable the compliance forces and effective masses of two different arrangements of conventional systems to be determined under all conditions ...

Analysis and synthesis of static power convertors

IEE Proceedings G (Electronic Circuits and Systems), 1986
The paper presents the systematic analysis and synthesis of ideal static convertors with any number of input and output phases. Methods of control of dependent quantities are presented and analysed for DC to DC, DC to AC, AC to DC and AC to AC convertors.

Class E2 resonant DC/DC power convertor

IEE Proceedings G Circuits, Devices and Systems, 1990
A new high-frequency high-efficiency resonant DC/DC convertor is introduced. It is composed of a Class E inverter and a Class E rectifier. The convertor operates with load resistances ranging from a full load to infinity. It can regulate the output voltage by varying the switching frequency over a narrow range, owing to a high value of the loaded ...

Peak power tracking in parallel connected convertors

IEE Proceedings G Circuits, Devices and Systems, 1993
A control scheme for parallel connected convertor systems, which will transfer the maximum available power from a nonideal voltage source, is presented. Monitoring the rates of change in both the average input current and average input power from the source, the proposed control method can dynamically regulate the DC-DC convertor system to track the ...
