Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A precise ultra high frequency partial discharge location method for switchgear based on received signal strength ranging

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2020
Partial discharges are the main insulation defects encountered in gas-insulated switchgears. When it occurs inside the gas-insulated switchgear cavity, it degrades insulation, and, sooner or later, causes a breakdown.

The Development of a State-Aware Equipment Maintenance Application Using Sensor Data Ranking Techniques

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Billions of electric equipment are connected to Internet of Things (IoT)-based sensor networks, where they continuously generate a large volume of status information of assets. So, there is a need for state-aware information retrieval technology that can

The power law character of off-site power failures

open access: yes, 2003
A study on the behavior of off-site AC power failure recovery times at three nuclear plant sites is presented. It is shown, that power law is appropriate for the representation of failure frequency-duration correlation function of off-site power failure ...

The energy distribution of electrons in radio jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Black-hole and neutron-star X-ray binaries exhibit compact radio jets, when they are in the so called quiescent, hard, or hard intermediate states. The radio spectrum in these states is flat to slightly inverted.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
