Dynamics of a certain sequence of powers [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1999
For any nonzero complex number z we define a sequence a1(z) = z, ,…,, n ∈ ℕ. We attempt to describe the set of these z for which the sequence {an(z)} is convergent. While it is almost impossible to characterize this convergence set in the complex plane 𝒞, we achieved it for positive reals.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A sense of security in urban environments: discrimination, diversity and prospects for communication strategies

open access: yesCogent Social Sciences
This study explores the public’s perception of how power dynamics in communication contribute to the distribution of values and response to diversity in a demography of a dominant religious presence with impactful tribal and cultural customs.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Now you see me, now you don’t: the role and relevance of paradigms in water governance

open access: yesEcology and Society
Current understandings of water governance rely on a multitude of paradigms, defined as normative ideas collectively held by actor groups. These ideas shape how water challenges are framed and addressed; however, the ways in which paradigms influence ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Policy optimization for dynamic power management [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings 1998 Design and Automation Conference. 35th DAC. (Cat. No.98CH36175), 1998
Dynamic power management schemes (also called policies) reduce the power consumption of complex electronic systems by trading off performance for power in a controlled fashion, taking system workload into account. In a power-managed system it is possible to set components into different states, each characterized by performance and power consumption ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
