Survey of residential power-frequency magnetic fields in Melbourne, Australia
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2014Pooled analyses of epidemiological studies have reported an association between prolonged residential exposure to power-frequency magnetic fields of >0.4 μT and an increased risk in childhood leukaemia. In order to compare residential magnetic fields in Australia with those in other countries, a survey was conducted in 296 randomly selected homes in ...

Identification of Power Frequency Industrial Magnetic Field Sources for Shielding Purposes
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2004In any industrial installation power frequency electric systems generate extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields. Field amplitude values must fulfill the limits related to health effects or to disturbances on electromagnetic devices and a shielding system could be necessary.

Canceling the Power Frequency Magnetic and Electric Fields of Power Lines
IETE Journal of Education, 2013AbstractMethods are presented for the cancellation of the power line's power frequency magnetic and electric fields at pre-specified points close to the line corridor. For canceling the magnetic field, the method is based on the use of three auxiliary conductors constituting two mitigating loops.

Study of magnetic fields from power-frequency current on water lines
Bioelectromagnetics, 1997The magnetic fields from power-frequency current flowing on water lines were investigated in a new approach that involved an area-wide survey in a small town. Magnetic fields were measured outside the residence under power cables and over water lines, and each residence was characterized as to whether it received water from a private well or the ...

Magnetic field mitigation at power frequency: Design principles and case studies
2014 IEEE Industry Application Society Annual Meeting, 2014The purpose of this paper is to analyze the main techniques for magnetic field mitigation at power frequency and assess their effectiveness presenting two real applications used as case studies. Some mitigation techniques presented in the literature are reviewed and discussed.

A Population-Based Job Exposure Matrix for Power-Frequency Magnetic Fields
Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2007A population-based job exposure matrix (JEM) was developed to assess personal exposures to power-frequency magnetic fields (MF) for epidemiologic studies. The JEM compiled 2,317 MF measurements taken on or near workers by 10 studies in the United States, Sweden, New Zealand, Finland, and Italy.

Characterization of power frequency magnetic fields in different environments
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1993Results of a study on the power frequency magnetic fields in domestic, industrial, office and agricultural environments, as well as in generating stations, substations and transmission and distribution lines, are presented. A special 24 h magnetic field recording instrument was developed, and systematic long-term and spot measurements were carried out.

Nonlinear response of the immune system to power-frequency magnetic fields
American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2000Studies of the effects of power-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on the immune and other body systems produced positive and negative results, and this pattern was usually interpreted to indicate the absence of real effects. However, if the biological effects of EMFs were governed by nonlinear laws, deterministic responses to fields could occur ...

Epidemiological and Laboratory Studies of Power Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1992A LONG history of lore suggests that magnetism and electricity influence human health, generally for the better. For example, more than 200 years ago, Dr Anton Mesmer attracted worldwide attention with his claim to cure a variety of diseases through exposure to magnetism (and thus, "Mesmerism").
