The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Voltage-based droop control of renewables to avoid on-off oscillations caused by overvoltages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To achieve the environmental goals set by many governments, an increasing amount of renewable energy, often delivered by distributed-generation (DG) units, is injected into the electrical power system.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Intelligent Control of Power Generation States

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2008
Abstract The topicality of the problem of power generating facility identification is justified against the background of European and Russian power grids interconnection. Intelligent control techniques for power generation states is presented. A technology for estimating the dynamics of power grid's generating facilities participation in overall ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Flexible unbalanced control with peak current limitation for virtual synchronous generator under voltage sags

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2017
Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is grid-friendly for integrating distributed generations (DGs) since it can emulate the operation mechanism of traditional synchronous generator (SG).

An Improved Beetle Swarm Algorithm Based on Social Learning for a Game Model of Multiobjective Distribution Network Reconfiguration

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
With the increased distributed generation (DG) and electric vehicle (EV) load penetration in distribution networks, it is more difficult to ensure the safe and economic operation of the distribution networks because of the great volatility and randomness

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Contribution of a smart transformer in the local primary control of a microgrid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In order to enable an easy participation of microgrids in the electricity markets, the smart transformer (ST) concept has been developed. The ST controls the power exchange between a microgrid and the utility network by only controlling its microgrid ...
