Power quality improvement using passive shunt filter, TCR and TSC combination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Power system harmonics are a menace to electric power systems with disastrous consequences. The line current harmonics cause increase in losses, instability, and also voltage distortion.

Optimal passive filter design for effective utilization of cables and transformers under non-sinusoidal conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Transformers and cables have overheating and reduced loading capabilities under non-sinusoidal conditions due to the fact that their losses increases with not only rms value but also frequency of the load current.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Impacts of Nonlinear Loads on the Power Quality of Solar Microgrids and Proposed Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering
The integration of solar energy into microgrids poses significant challenges in maintaining power quality due to the variable nature of solar generation and the presence of nonlinear loads such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), variable frequency ...

Analysis of Wideband Oscillation Mechanism and Suppression Technology Based on C-Type Damping Filter

open access: yesEnergies
Based on the dilemma of analyzing the resonance stability of AC power grids using impedance models, it is demonstrated that the “negative resistance” mechanism of wideband oscillation is untenable. A general method for describing power electronic devices

Selection of C-Type Filters for Reactive Power Compensation and Filtration of Higher Harmonics Injected into the Transmission System by Arc Furnaces

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
This article presents a method for selecting the elements of a C-type filter working with a conventional LC-type filter for compensating reactive power and filtering out higher harmonics generated by arc furnaces and ladle furnaces.

Combined diplexer and harmonic filter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
By using two directional filters having circular waveguide filter cavities, diplexing and harmonic filtering functions can be combined into a more compact integrated waveguide assembly. Device is filter which passes power within its pass band limits, but

P and M class phasor measurement unit algorithms using adaptive cascaded filters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The new standard C37.118.1 lays down strict performance limits for phasor measurement units (PMUs) under steady-state and dynamic conditions. Reference algorithms are also presented for the P (performance) and M (measurement) class PMUs.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.
