Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

Erosion of a granular bed driven by laminar fluid flow

open access: yes, 2008
Motivated by examples of erosive incision of channels in sand, we investigate the motion of individual grains in a granular bed driven by a laminar fluid to give us new insights into the relationship between hydrodynamic stress and surface granular flow.

In Situ Study of Resistive Switching in a Nitride‐Based Memristive Device

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM biasing experiment demonstrates the volatile I‐V characteristic of MIM lamella device. In situ STEM‐EELS Ti L2/L3 ratio maps provide direct evidence of the oxygen vacancies migrations under positive/negative electrical bias, which is critical for revealing the RS mechanism for the MIM lamella device.

Microsphere Autolithography—A Scalable Approach for Arbitrary Patterning of Dielectric Spheres

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MicroSphere Autolithography (µSAL) enables scalable fabrication of patchy particles with customizable surface motifs. Focusing light through dielectric microspheres creates well defined, tunable patches via a conformal poly(dopamine) photoresist. Nearly arbitrary surface patterns can be achieved, with the resolution set by the index contrast between ...

GPU‐Accelerated Lattice Boltzmann Simulations of Power‐Law Non‐Newtonian Fluid Flow in a Diagonally Driven Cavity Using D3Q27 MRT‐LBM

open access: yesEngineering Reports
The study examines the flow dynamics of power‐law non‐Newtonian fluids in a cubic cavity with a top lid‐driven diagonally‐driven diagonally using the D3Q27 multiple‐relaxation‐time (MRT) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). This situation frequently occurs in

Effect of Yield Power Law Fluid Rheological Properties on Cuttings Transport in Eccentric Horizontal Narrow Annulus

open access: yes, 2016
Narrow annular drilling such as casing-while-drilling technique is gaining popularity due to its ability to mitigate nonproductive time during oil and gas drilling operations.

Multiple Twinning in Nacre and Aragonite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electron backscatter diffraction map of a cluster of geologic aragonite, exhibiting single, double, and triple twins. The whole cluster is approximately 2 cm wide. Colors indicate crystal orientations, so that pixels where the a‐, b‐, and c‐axis is perpendicular to the image plane are green, red, and blue, respectively.
