Reactive Power Planning for transmission loss minimization

2011 5th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference, 2011
Total system losses of the power system relate to the reactive power management in the network. This paper presents a method to minimize the system losses by utilizing Reactive Power Planning (RPP) approach. In this technique, the control variables of RPP were formulated as an optimization problem and Multiagent Immune Evolutionary Programming (MAIEP ...

Stochastic loss minimization for power distribution networks

2014 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), 2014
Distribution systems will be critically challenged by reverse power flows and voltage fluctuations due to the integration of distributed renewable generation, demand response, and electric vehicles. Yet the same transformative changes coupled with advances in microelectronics offer new opportunities for reactive power management in distribution grids ...

ACOPF with SOCP Hierarchy for Power Loss Minimization

2021 18th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI-CON), 2021
Power loss minimization can decrease the dispatch cost of operation and improve system security. Thus, power loss minimization plays an important role in a power distribution system. In this paper, the alternating current optimal power flow (ACOPF) problem is proposed to optimize the transmission loss taking into account system operating limits.

Minimizing asymmetric loss in medium-term wind power forecasting

Renewable Energy, 2015
Abstract In this article we propose a new wind power forecasting model that does not focus on providing the most precise forecasts, but minimizes the financial loss of forecasting impreciseness. We show that the loss function is asymmetric and therefore account for asymmetry during the estimation stage of our model.

Power Loss Minimization Through Maximal Power Endurance or Repeated Power Training Programs

International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance
Purpose: The present study analyzed the effects of a maximal-power-endurance (MPE) versus a repeated-power-ability (RPA) training program on different strength, power, and repeated-power measurements in a short- and long-term training period and the relationships between changes in all variables. Methods: Twenty-two young highly trained male basketball

Power system losses minimization with transient stability constraints

2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2011
This paper presents a study of Optimal Power Flow calculation, coupled with additional transient stability constraints (TSC-OPF). Besides, with some modifications to the formulation of the transient stability constraint, a better convergence property can be achieved.

Active Power Loss Minimization By Harmony Search Algorithm

Michael Faraday IET International Summit 2015, 2015
This paper presents a recently developed optimization technique named as harmony search algorithm (HSA). Objective of the proposed work is to minimize the active power loss. This algorithm is tested on standard IEEE 14 and 30bus test system for the determination of optimal setting of control/design variables such as tap setting of transformer, reactive

Reactive Power Loss Minimization on an Interconnected Electric Power Network

2018
The inability of power system to maintain a proper balance of reactive power is the major cause of voltage collapse. A system can be saved from voltage collapse by reducing the reactive power load or by adding additional reactive power into the system. The electric power system is afflicted with continuous load shedding due to inadequate generation and

Consideration to minimize power losses in synchronous rectification

8th International Conference on Power Electronics - ECCE Asia, 2011
A synchronous rectification in high performance converter design is an essential block for low voltage and high current applications since significant efficiency and power density improvements can be achieved by replacing schottky rectification with synchronous rectification MOSFETs.

Smart DER control for minimizing power losses in distribution feeders

Electric Power Systems Research, 2014
Abstract Distributed energy resources, such as distributed generators and storage systems, are generally considered as active power sources. Indeed, they can also be used as reactive power resources, which contribute to reduce the power losses in a distribution feeder.
