Load dependence of power outage statistics [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2019
The size distributions of power outages are shown to depend on the stress, or the proximity of the load of an electrical grid to complete breakdown. Using the data for the U.S. between 2002-2017, we show that the outage statistics are dependent on the usage levels during different hours of the day and months of the year.

A Power Control Algorithm Based on Outage Probability Awareness in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

open access: yesAdvances in Multimedia, 2018
This paper addresses the problem of adaptive power control based on outage probability minimization in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), called a Power Control Algorithm Based on Outage Probability Awareness (PC-OPA). Unlike most of the existing works,

Power outages and economic growth in Africa [PDF]

open access: yesEnergy Economics, 2013
Abstract This paper estimates the total effect of power outages on economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa over the period 1995–2007. We pay close attention both to potential errors of measurement of African economic growth and to the endogeneity of outages. As suggested by Henderson et al.

Outage probability analysis of vehicular communication system with two-way AF cooperation

open access: yesDianzi Jishu Yingyong, 2018
In vehicular communication system, two-way cooperative communication can improve system performance. However, vehicle mobile communication will cause the two-way link correlation and thus reduce the system outage performance.

Outage Probability Analysis for Correlated Sources Transmission over Rician Fading Channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, the outage probability of a Slepian-Wolf transmission system is analysed theoretically. We consider two correlated binary information sequences where bit-flipping model is adopted, where the the information bits of the second source are ...

On the Performance of Full-Duplex Cooperative NOMA With Non-Linear EH

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This paper studies a non-linear energy harvesting (EH) enabled full-duplex (FD) cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (C-NOMA) system, where the near user acts as an FD relay to assist the transmission from BS to far user with power-splitting (PS ...

Power Outages, Power Externalities, and Baby Booms [PDF]

open access: yesDemography, 2013
AbstractDetermining whether power outages have significant fertility effects is an important policy question in developing countries, where blackouts are common and modern forms of family planning are scarce. Using birth records from Zanzibar, this study shows that a month-long blackout in 2008 caused a significant increase in the number of births 8 to
