40-Watt Power-Over-Fiber Using a Double-Clad Fiber for Optically Powered Radio-Over-Fiber Systems

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015
We have successfully demonstrated bidirectional radio-over-fiber transmission using a double-clad fiber with 40-Watt (W) optical power feeding. The error-vector-magnitude penalties of the transmitted signals were less than 0.06% with and without 40-W optical power feeding.

Power-over-Fiber-based 90-GHz High-Power-Integrated Photoreceiver for High Data Rate Radio-over-Fiber

14th Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO PR 2020), 2020
We present a highly efficient and high-power integrated photoreceiver for 90-GHz range radio over fiber (RoF) communications using power over fiber; the photoreceiver has demonstrated high data-rate wireless transmission up to 28.8 Gbps. © 2020 The Author(s)

Power transmission over optical fiber networks

2014 16th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2014
In this work, we report experimental results regarding the recycling of optical pumps signal for energy conversion, namely optical pumps from Raman amplifiers and fiber optic parametric amplifiers. Therefore, we propose the usage of optical signals to power remotely located network elements.

60  W power-over-fiber feed using double-clad fibers for radio-over-fiber systems with optically powered remote antenna units

Optics Letters, 2015
We experimentally demonstrated the ability to feed 60 W of optical power into a power-over-fiber link using a double-clad fiber for radio-over-fiber systems with optically powered remote antenna units. In order to improve the available optical feed power and the power transmission efficiency of the power-over-fiber link, we have designed a specially ...

Photonic Power: Delivering Power Over Fiber for Optical Networks

2006 International Conference on Photonics in Switching, 2006
Photonic power harnesses the power of light to offer a new means of power delivery over non-conductive fiber. It is well suited for delivering power in all-optical networks by utilizing available fiber bundles for driving low power switches or actuators while assuring immunity to lightning, sparking, and cross talk effects.

Reconfigurable Hardware for Power-over-Fiber Applications

2010 International Conference on Field Programmable Logic and Applications, 2010
In this paper we present an optically powered and motorized video camera system. Energy for the camera sensor is supplied by a glass fiber carrying 800 mW of optical power, which the sensor converts back to 320 mW of electrical power. The specific advantage of this arrangement is galvanic isolation and a very high robustness with respect to ...

Power-Over-Fiber for Radio-Over-Fiber-Based Distributed Antenna Systems

CLEO Pacific Rim Conference, 2018
Power-over-fiber is one of the essential technologies for simultaneously transmitting data and power in a same optical fiber. This paper introduces power-over-fiber towards practical applications of radio-over-fiber-based distributed antenna systems for future mobile networks.

Fiber-powered Antenna Using RF Over Fiber for 2-Way Communications

Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2022 (FIO, LS), 2022
We propose a fiber-powered antenna system where an antenna at the remote site is powered wholly by optical energy transferred over an optical fiber and demonstrate 5G transmission in a 2-way wireless communication link.

Sound Alerter Powered Over an Optical Fiber

Bell System Technical Journal, 1978
An optically powered sound alerter has been constructed which demonstrates the feasibility of converting optical power into sound power with good efficiency and at power levels comparable to those of present telephone ringers. The alerter has an overall optical-to-acoustic efficiency of about 35 percent at 2 mW of acoustic output power.

Optically Powered Radio-Over-Fiber Systems

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2018
This paper introduces recent works on optically powered radio-over-fiber systems, which drive remote antenna units by power-over-fiber without any other external power supplies. This paper also discusses the perspective on future mobile communications.
