Overhead power line stringing with UAV
2017 12th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM), 2017The goal of this abstract is to explain the methods and procedures developed by CME — Construcao e Manutencao Electromecânica, SA to execute overhead LLW Stringing — with an intelligent flight done by UAV's — Unmanned Aerial Vehicles leading to significant cost benefits and improved security, in contrast to conventional systems (helicopters, industrial

Simulation of a overhead power line
2012 11th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, 2012Overhead power lines are the prevailing facilities to carry electric energy along big distances. Their proper functioning is very important for the current society due our highly electrical-dependent lifestyle. During their working, overhead power lines are under different phenomena, such as short-circuits, high-speed winds, extreme temperature ...

Lightning attachment to overhead power lines
2020Lightning is the main cause of unscheduled interruptions in overhead power lines, affecting reliability of power supply and thus, consequently, resulting in economic losses. Lightning-caused insulation flashover in overhead power lines is associated with the fast-front overvoltages across line insulation, arising due to direct lightning strokes or ...

Electrothermal analysis of overhead power lines
2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2012In this work a complete coupled electrothrmal analysis of overhead power lines is presented. The electromagnetic field problem is soved analytically for both the AAC and ACSR cases. The Joule losses thus computed are input to the thermal problem yielding the analytical expression of the thermal impedance.

Resultant reactive power of overhead lines
Proceedings of the IEE Part C: Monographs, 1956A method is demonstrated for arriving at simple formulae by which the resultant reactive power of overhead lines under any load condition can be quickly calculated, and in which the only line constant necessary to be known is the inductance. Tables of practical overhead-line inductances are given.

Energy harvesting for overhead power line monitoring
International Multi-Conference on Systems, Sygnals & Devices, 2012Power transmission is becoming increasingly challenging because of the growth of electricity demands and distribution of renewable energies. Therefore, an effective monitoring of power lines is of decisive importance for network management. In this paper, we propose a solution for energy harvesting from the electrostatic stray field of the power line ...

Roman engineering [overhead power line history]
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2003A modern engineer visiting Rome, as the author did recently, cannot fail to be impressed by the work of the Roman engineers of 2000 years ago. However much manual labor was available in the capital of the empire, the planning and construction of the Colosseum and the Pantheon were magnificent engineering achievements.

Overhead Power Line with Backup Split-Phase
2019 International Multi-Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies (FarEastCon), 2019The article describes the characteristics of traditional and unconventional types of AC power transmission, such as overhead lines with a backup phase, six-phase power lines and controlled power lines FACTS. The analysis of ways to improve the efficiency and operation of overhead power lines using backup phases is given.

Overhead power line design in market conditions
2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG), 2015This paper deals with the concept of the stochastic optimization methodology for power line designing, which allows optimizing transmission network planning. The paper presents a comparison of both methods applied for selecting the best line design alternative — the deterministic economic intervals method and the stochastic approach based method ...

Sensing Overhead Power Lines for Accident Prevention
Transactions of the ASAE, 1994Accidental contacts between farm equipment and overhead power lines contribute to the poor safety record of agriculture. Contact is commonly with an auger or irrigation pipe being moved by hand or with a tall piece of equipment being towed by a vehicle.
