High-dimensional variable selection

open access: yes, 2009
This paper explores the following question: what kind of statistical guarantees can be given when doing variable selection in high-dimensional models? In particular, we look at the error rates and power of some multi-stage regression methods.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Application of Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition based Support Vector Regression Model for Wind Power Prediction

open access: yesJurnal Teknik Industri, 2020
Improving accuracy of wind power prediction is important to maintain power system stability. However, wind power prediction is difficult due to randomness and high volatility characteristics.

Estimation of Parameters of Two Non-linear Regression Models Using Assumed Values: Reciprocal Power Regression Models

open access: yesAsian Research Journal of Mathematics, 2020
Fitting nonlinear models is not a single-step procedure but it involved a process that requires careful examination of each individual step. Depending on the objective and the application domain, different priorities are set when fitting nonlinear models; these include obtaining acceptable parameter estimates and a good model fit while meeting standard

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

Weighting Factor Selection of the Ensemble Model for Improving Forecast Accuracy of Photovoltaic Generating Resources

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Among renewable energy sources, solar power is rapidly growing as a major power source for future power systems. However, solar power has uncertainty due to the effects of weather factors, and if the penetration rate of solar power in the future ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

A penalised power-generalised Weibull distributional regression model

open access: yes, 2023
In medical applications, non-proportional hazards are often encountered, and, in these scenarios, standard survival modelling techniques are not appropriate. Such non-proportional hazards are observed, for instance, in cases where the risk of death changes during the treatment period.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Testing for spatial autocorrelation: the regressors that make the power disappear [PDF]

open access: yes
We show that for any sample size, any size of the test, and any weights matrix outside a small class of exceptions, there exists a positive measure set of regression spaces such that the power of the Cliff-Ord test vanishes as the autocorrelation ...
