Simulation and Application of Power System Stabilizer on Power System Transient Stability [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Electrical & Electronic Engineering Journal, 2014
This paper introduces the working principle and the mathematical model of additional power system excitation control-Power System Stabilizer (PSS). Through established a typical single machine-infinite bus power system simulation model, we simulate the synchronous generator’s transient operational characteristics following a severe disturbance.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Q–V Sensitivity-Based Analysis of Solar PV Deployment at Vulnerable Nodes in a Stressed Power Network

open access: yesIEEE Access
This research investigates the effect of solar photovoltaic (PV) penetration at the vulnerable nodes of the 28-bus, 330 kV Nigeria power grid (NPG). The $N-1$ contingency assessment via New Voltage Stability Pointer ( ${NVSP}_{i,k}$ ) in MATLAB and ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Power System Stability with Power-Electronic Converter Interfaced Renewable Power Generation: Present Issues and Future Trends

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The energy sector is currently undergoing a rapid transformation with the integration of power electronic converter (PEC)-interfaced renewable energy sources (RES), such as wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, at both the transmission and ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

The power of effect size stabilization

open access: yesBehavior Research Methods
Determining an appropriate sample size in psychological experiments is a common challenge, requiring a balance between maximizing the chance of detecting a true effect (minimizing false negatives) and minimizing the risk of observing an effect where none exists (minimizing false positives).

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.
