Power System Dynamic Stability Enhancement of SMIB Using Fuzzy Logic Based Power System Stabilizer

2010
The oscillations in the frequency range of 0.2 to 3.0 Hz limit the power transmission capability of a network and, sometimes, even cause a loss of synchronism and an eventual breakdown of the entire system. This paper presents an application of fuzzy logic power system stabilizer (PSS) for dynamic stability enhancement power system.

Optimization of conventional power system stabilizer to improve dynamic stability

2010 5th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2010
In this paper, conventional power system stabilizer (CPSS) is designed to damp electromechanical oscillations. CPSS parameters settings are computed using linear control theory. A new technique based on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) is proposed to optimize the parameters settings of CPSS.

Stability and nonlinear dynamics in power systems

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1994
Power systems are characterized by nonlinear dynamics, and unusual and unexpected behavior has been observed in both simple and complex networks. System behavior is expected to become increasingly complicated because of such factors as greater interconnection, the implementation of high-speed electronic power control devices and wheeling requirements ...

Dynamic stability enhancement using Particle Swarm Optimization Power System Stabilizer

2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST), 2009
In this paper the dynamics of a single machine connected to infinite bus power system is analyzed. Such analysis requires a certain level of system modeling. The main system components models are the synchronous machine, excitation system and the Power System Stabilizer.

Dynamic Stability of Power Systems with Power Electronic Interfaced DG

2006 IEEE PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2006
In this paper, the transient stability of power systems with a high penetration level of power electronic interfaced (converter connected) distributed generation is explored by means of computer simulations. Small 2 and 3 bus test systems are used. The converter is modeled as a three-phase full-bridge IGBT voltage source converter (VSC).

Probabilistic Methods For Power System Dynamic Stability Studies

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1978
In this paper, several sources of uncertainty in electric power systems are incorporated into the dynamic stability analysis of the system. Operating point stability is considered, with the system model written in state variable notation. The sensitivites of the eigenvalues of the associate matrix are used to calculate the statistics of eigenvalue ...

Sensitivity Analysis in Power System Dynamic Stability Studies

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1972
In this paper, the second method of Liapunov is used to investigate the dynamic stability problem of power systems using the perturbed system dynamics in state variable form. Defining stability measure in terms of Liapunov functions and their time derivatives, the paper formulates a method for the calculation of the sensitivity of the dynamic stability

Power System Dynamic Equilibrium, Power Flow, and Steady-State Stability

2014
The material in this chapter focuses on the relationship between power system dynamic equilibrium, power flow, and operating point stability. It addresses issues relating steady-state equilibrium in electric power systems with possible implications about stability of the associated operating point. It presents various connections between dynamic models,

Basics of power system dynamics and stability

To operate an electricity grid in a stable manner, the same physical principles must be considered for interconnected and islanded operations. This chapter contains a brief overview of some of the basic concepts in power system dynamics and stability with a special focus on islanded grids.
