Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Eigenvalue Problems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Scientific Computing, 2010
We provide a priori error estimates for variational approximations of the ground state eigenvalue and eigenvector of nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problems of the form $-{div} (A\nabla u) + Vu + f(u^2) u = λu$, $\|u\|_{L^2}=1$. We focus in particular on the Fourier spectral approximation (for periodic problems) and on the $¶_1$ and $¶_2$ finite-element

Electromagnetic Steklov eigenvalues: approximation analysis [PDF]

open access: yesESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis, 2021
We continue the work of Camano et al. [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 49 (2017) 4376–4401] on electromagnetic Steklov eigenvalues. The authors recognized that in general the eigenvalues do not correspond to the spectrum of a compact operator and hence proposed a modified eigenvalue problem with the desired properties.

Improvement of damping characteristics and index evaluation of a wind-PV-thermal-bundled power transmission system by combining PSS and SSSC

open access: yesArchives of Electrical Engineering, 2020
The grid integration of large-scale wind and solar energy affects the power flow of wind-PV-thermal-bundled power transmission systems and may introduce an unpredicted threat to the power system’s small signal stability.

Estimation of the Number of Spiked Eigenvalues in a Covariance Matrix by Bulk Eigenvalue Matching Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Statistical Association, 2021
The spiked covariance model has gained increasing popularity in high-dimensional data analysis. A fundamental problem is determination of the number of spiked eigenvalues, K. For estimation of K, most attention has focused on the use of top eigenvalues of sample covariance matrix, and there is little investigation into proper ways of using bulk ...
