Right eigenvalue equation in quaternionic quantum mechanics

open access: yes, 2000
We study the right eigenvalue equation for quaternionic and complex linear matrix operators defined in n-dimensional quaternionic vector spaces. For quaternionic linear operators the eigenvalue spectrum consists of n complex values.

Regularized Gaussian Discriminant Analysis Through Eigenvalue Decomposition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Statistical Association, 1996
Abstract Friedman proposed a regularization technique (RDA) of discriminant analysis in the Gaussian framework. RDA uses two regularization parameters to design an intermediate classifier between the linear, the quadratic the nearest-means classifiers.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Hyperbolic triangles without embedded eigenvalues

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the Neumann Laplacian acting on square-integrable functions on a triangle in the hyperbolic plane that has one cusp. We show that the generic such triangle has no eigenvalues embedded in its continuous spectrum.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Predicting criticality and dynamic range in complex networks: effects of topology

open access: yes, 2010
The collective dynamics of a network of coupled excitable systems in response to an external stimulus depends on the topology of the connections in the network.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Reliable a-posteriori error estimators for $hp$-adaptive finite element approximations of eigenvalue/eigenvector problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present reliable a-posteriori error estimates for $hp$-adaptive finite element approximations of eigenvalue/eigenvector problems. Starting from our earlier work on $h$ adaptive finite element approximations we show a way to obtain reliable and ...

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.
