Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Preventing voltage collapse by large SVCs at power system faults

open access: yes, 2009
This paper shows how the performance of a power grid in Saudi Arabia is improved by using SVCs to reduce the risk for voltage collapse at short circuits.

Hybrid Condition Monitoring System for Power Transformer Fault Diagnosis

open access: yes, 2023
The important parts of a transformer, such as the core, windings, and insulation materials, are in the oil-filled tank. It is difficult to detect faults in these materials in a closed area.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Understanding Discrepancy of Power System Dynamic Security Assessment with Unknown Faults: A Reliable Transfer Learning-based Method

open access: yes
This letter proposes a reliable transfer learning (RTL) method for pre-fault dynamic security assessment (DSA) in power systems to improve DSA performance in the presence of potentially related unknown faults.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Modeling and Simulating Long-Timescale Cascading Faults in Power Systems Caused by Line-Galloping Events

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
With the increasing occurrence of extreme weather events, the short circuit and line-breaking faults in transmission lines caused by line galloping have been threatening the security operation of power systems.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...
