v-SVM for transient stability assessment in power systems
Proceedings Autonomous Decentralized Systems, 2005. ISADS 2005., 2005In this paper, support vector machines (SVMs) are studied in the application of transient stability assessment in power systems. SVMs have the following advantages: automatic determination of the number of hidden neurons, fast convergence rate, good generalization capability, etc.

Transient stabilization of power systems with an adaptive control law
Automatica, 1994Abstract Due to a variety of effects, such as lightning, severe storms and equipment failures, the configuration of an electric power system is not constant. Thus, important parameters, such as effective reactances of transmission lines, in an electric power system always contain some uncertainties.

Robust nonlinear control of transient stability of power systems
42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004In this paper we present a robust nonlinear excitation controller of synchronous generator connected through one transmission line to an infinite bus (SMIB) to enhance transient stability. Simulation results show that transient stability of a single machine infinite bus power system under a large sudden fault can be improved.

Power-Electronics-Enabled Transient Stabilization of Power Systems
2013Transient stability of electric energy grids is defined as the ability of the power system to remain in synchronism during large disturbances. If the grid is not equipped with controllers capable of transiently stabilizing system dynamics, large disturbances could cause protection to trigger disconnecting the equipment and leading further to cascading ...

Transient Stabilization of Multimachine Power Systems
2006In this chapter we provide a solution to the long-standing problem of transient stabilization of multimachine power systems with nonnegligible transfer conductances. More specifically, we consider the full 3n-dimensional model of the n-generator system with lossy transmission lines and loads and prove the existence of a nonlinear static state feedback ...

Transient Stabilization in Systems with Wind Power
2013This chapter analyzes transient stability problems in networks with high wind penetration. Disturbances caused by wind power perturbations and major equipment failures are considered, and their impact on system dynamics is analyzed. Next, the potential of power-electronically switched devices for the stabilization of system dynamics during high energy ...

Global Transient Stability and Voltage Regulation for Power Systems
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2001Summary form only given as follows. This paper is concerned with the global control of power systems. It arises from the practical concern that transient stability and voltage regulation are both important properties of power system control, but they are ascribed to different model descriptions and relate to different stages of system operation (i.e ...

Transient Stability of Dissipative Power Systems
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1984Abstract Stability criteria for on-line analysis of transient processes in power systems are discussed. A method to approximate separation manifolds by energy surfaces of corresponding conservative systems is derived by using the theory of differential manifolds in the spirit of Its applications in classical mechanics. Closed form stability criteria,

Improving of Transient Stability of Power Systems Using UPFC
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2005The objective of this paper is to answer to the following question: How the unified power flow controller (UPFC) parameters should be controlled in order to achieve the maximal desired effect in solving first swing stability problem. This problem appears for bulky power systems with long transmission lines.

Transient Stability of Multimachine Power Systems
International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 1976Transient stability of multimachine power systems is discussed using the concepts of modern control theory e.g. state variables, Lyapunov functions. The points discussed include the mathematical model, dimension of the state space, effect of damping on stability, validity of neglecting transfer conductances, also suggestions for further work in the ...
