Fault Detection in Power Transmission Lines Using AI Model

2023 IEEE International Conference on Integrated Circuits and Communication Systems (ICICACS), 2023
Unexpected failures in the electrical power transmission line can occur for several different, unpredictable reasons. Power failures on transmission lines can destroy the present power grid if faults aren't quickly detected and corrected.

Fault analysis of HTS power transmission cables

2013 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices, 2013
It is very attractive to replace traditional power cables into high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cables for electricity transmission to metropolitan areas with the advantages of high capacity and low losses. However, these advantages only present when the conductors are kept in certain low temperature.

Power Transmission Fault Detection Method Based on UAV and YOLOs Algorithms

International Conference on Innovative Computing and Cloud Computing, 2022
Power fault detection is a method of detecting the presence of abnormal faults in a transmission line. Due to the yearly increase in electricity consumption and the complexity of transmission lines, line maintenance cannot be done efficiently by manual ...

A Multi-State Model for Transmission System Resilience Enhancement Against Short-Circuit Faults Caused by Extreme Weather Events

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2021
Due to global climate change, the effect of extreme weather on power systems has attracted extensive attention. In the prior-art grid resilience studies, the hurricanes or wildfires are mainly defended in terms of expected line damages, while they are ...

Incipient fault detection in mechanical power transmission systems

Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005
This paper presents a novel method for anomaly detection in a helical gear box, where the objective is to predict incipient faults before they become catastrophic. The anomaly detection algorithm relies on symbolic time series analysis and is built upon concepts from automata theory, information theory, and pattern recognition.

Fault diagnosis system for tapped power transmission lines

Electric Power Systems Research, 2010
Abstract This paper presents a design for a fault diagnosis system (FDS) for tapped HV/EHV power transmission lines. These lines have two different protection zones. The proposed approach reduces the cost and the complexity of the FDS for these types of lines. The FDS consists basically of fifteen artificial neural networks (ANNs).

Fault Classification in Vehicle Power Transmission using Machine Learning

Journal of Machine and Computing, 2022
The work describes the application of machine learning (ML) to the categorization and diagnosis of vehicle faults in the power transmission system. For each failure characteristic condition, a machine learning algorithm may be employed to categorize their separate diagnostic elements.

Accurate fault location technique for power transmission lines

IEE Proceedings C Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1990
The authors describe a very accurate fault location technique which uses post-fault voltage and current derived at both line ends. Fault location is independent of fault resistance and the method does not require any knowledge of source impedance. It maintains high accuracy for untransposed lines and no fault type identification is required.
