On the Powers of Powerful Knowledge

Review of Education, 2013
Abstract The aim of this paper is to explore and clarify the idea of ‘powerful knowledge’ as a sociological concept and as a curriculum principle. The paper seeks to clarify its conceptual basis and to make its meaning and the arguments it implies, less ambiguous and less open to misunderstanding.

power [PDF]

open access: possible, 2008
We consider the exercise of power in competitive markets for goods, labour and credit. We offer a definition of power and show that if contracts are incomplete it may be exercised either in Pareto-improving ways or to the disadvantage of those without power.

The Power of Oblivious Wireless Power

SIAM Journal on Computing, 2017
Summary: We study a fundamental measure for wireless interference in the signal-to-interference noise ratio model known as (weighted) inductive independence. This measure characterizes the effectiveness of using \textit{oblivious} power -- when the power used by a transmitter only depends on the distance to the receiver -- as a mechanism for improving ...

Power-to-X and power-to-power routes

2019
The increasing dependence on a worldwide scale of the power generation sector on non-dispatchable renewable sources, such as wind or solar, is posing challenges to the electricity infrastructures that require flexibility solutions to keep the balance between power supply and demand.

The Power of Wagering on Power Conferences

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2013
We study the perceived discrepancy between power conference and mid-major college football teams by examining outcomes of games when these teams face one another.   We find that point spreads are set statistically irrationally in games where power conference teams play mid-major teams.

The power of power-laws: Or how to save power in SoC

2011 International Green Computing Conference and Workshops, 2011
Power and energy issues have significantly gained in importance in computing environments in the last few decades. In a world of mobile devices and massive-scale data centers, low-power systems are crucial for cost, availability, and the environment.
