The Power of Oblivious Wireless Power
SIAM Journal on Computing, 2017Summary: We study a fundamental measure for wireless interference in the signal-to-interference noise ratio model known as (weighted) inductive independence. This measure characterizes the effectiveness of using \textit{oblivious} power -- when the power used by a transmitter only depends on the distance to the receiver -- as a mechanism for improving ...

We consider the exercise of power in competitive markets for goods, labour and credit. We offer a definition of power and show that if contracts are incomplete it may be exercised either in Pareto-improving ways or to the disadvantage of those without power.

The Power of Wagering on Power Conferences
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2013We study the perceived discrepancy between power conference and mid-major college football teams by examining outcomes of games when these teams face one another. We find that point spreads are set statistically irrationally in games where power conference teams play mid-major teams.

Forced into a subtle but significant rethink, the connection between properties and powers seemed a crucial issue. Sydney Shoemaker argued that properties were clusters of conditional causal powers: conditional in the sense that they could do things when suitably partnered with other powers.

On powers in powerful p-groups
Journal of Group Theory, 2007Given a finite \(p\)-group \(G\) and a nonnegative integer \(k\), let \(\Omega_k(G)=\langle x\in G\mid o(x)\leq p^k\rangle\) and \(\Omega_{\{k\}}(G)=\{x\in G\mid o(x)\leq p^k\}\), \(\mho_k(G)=\langle x^{p^k}\mid x\in G\rangle\). If \(G\) is regular, then \(\Omega_{\{k\}}(G)\) is a subgroup of \(G\) so coincides with \(\Omega_k(G)\), but this is not the

The power of power-laws: Or how to save power in SoC
2011 International Green Computing Conference and Workshops, 2011Power and energy issues have significantly gained in importance in computing environments in the last few decades. In a world of mobile devices and massive-scale data centers, low-power systems are crucial for cost, availability, and the environment.

Power is a major explanatory concept in the study of social choice. It is used in studies of relations among nations, of community decision making, of business behavior, and of small-group discussion. In order to explore the power of power in empirical theories of social choice, this chapter proposes to do two things: First, it identifies three ...

Reactive power and power factor
Electrical Engineering, 1933GENERAL definitions exist for potential, current, and active and reactive power, that are independent of wave form and of circuit conditions. In order to use these quantities in circuit analysis when there are harmonics present, it is necessary to know their individual harmonic components.
