The Devil Is in the Detail: Tasmanian Devil and Tasmanian Tiger Paintings From Awunbarna and Injalak Hill, Northern Territory, Australia

open access: yesArchaeology in Oceania, Volume 61, Issue 1, Page 237-252, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Both the Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) and the Tasmanian tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus) are believed to have become extinct on the Australian mainland about 3000 years ago. However, until now there were only 23 known rock art depictions of the Tasmanian devil and about 150 Tasmanian tiger paintings and petroglyphs, mostly at rock art

Roads, Soil, Snow, and Topography Influence Genetic Connectivity: A Machine Learning Approach for a Peripheral American Badger Population

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We used a machine‐learning, corridor‐based approach to model landscape resistance and genetic connectivity for an endangered population of American badgers in southern British Columbia, Canada. We found that genetic connectivity in badgers was impeded by colluvial soil parent material, geographic distance, steep slopes, and major roads, but was ...

Modeling and Experimental Study of a Dual‐Receiver Parabolic Solar Concentrator for Direct Electricity Generation and Thermal Storage for Isolated Sites

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 2206-2224, April 2026.
Approximately 64% of the population in sub‐Saharan Africa lacks access to electricity, despite the region's high solar potential, making concentrated solar power a promising solution for decentralized and sustainable energy supply. This study presents the design, construction, and testing of a parabolic solar concentrator with two focal‐point receivers

A Cross‐Sectional Study Shows Emergence of the Delta, 19B, 20A, 20B, 19A, and Omicron Variants of SARS‐CoV‐2 in Burkina Faso: A Conundrum Within a Conundrum

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Context and Objective SARS‐CoV‐2 is an RNA virus that emerged in Wuhan, China. Adaptive mutations in its genome can influence the virus's pathogenicity, enhance its ability to evade the host immune system, and complicate vaccine development. This study aimed to identify the circulating SARS‐CoV‐2 variants in Burkina Faso and trace their origin.

Modeling Large Dust Aerosols in the Community Earth System Model Version 2 (CESM2)

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Dust aerosols have a wide size distribution from less than 0.1 to over 100 μm and dominate Earth's atmospheric aerosol mass. However, most Earth system models (ESMs) inadequately represent dust aerosols larger than 10 μm in diameter, limiting the accuracy of the simulated dust cycle and climate impacts.

Global determinants of home range sizes in felids: Evidence of human disturbance impact

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 4, Page 697-711, April 2026.
This study is the first to demonstrate the influence of anthropogenic factors and species richness in felids on home range size across the entire felid taxon. Felids are a taxon of major interest in conservation biology, and gaining a comprehensive view of their spatial ecology will help derive global conservation recommendations.
