Convection in a low Prandtl number fluid
Journal of Crystal Growth, 1996Abstract As a simple two-dimensional model of convection in the liquid phase during crystal growth using the Bridgman technique, we consider the fluid flow in a shallow rectangular cavity heated from one side. For an aspect ratio of 4 (aspect ratio = length height ), previous numerical studies have shown the existence of two types of ...

Rayleigh–Marangoni horizontal convection of low Prandtl number fluids
Physics of Fluids, 2004In this paper we describe the results of the numerical study of the Boussinesq–Navier–Stokes equations for the convection flow in an open top three-dimensional parallelepipedic cavity (4×1×1) driven by a horizontal temperature difference at two opposite vertical walls in presence of thermocapillary effects.

Convection in a compressible fluid with infinite Prandtl number
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1980An approximate set of equations is derived for a compressible liquid of infinite Prandtl number. These are referred to as the anelastic-liquid equations. The approximation requires the product of absolute temperature and volume coefficient of thermal expansion to be small compared to one.
