Transient Forced Convection in Fluids With Vanishing Prandtl Number
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1988The analytical solution of transient heat transfer from incompressible laminar boundary layer flows over a curved surface when the Prandtl number is zero was attempted by Soliman and Chambre using Fourier transforms and the method of characteristics. The same problem was addressed by Biasi using the von Karman-Pohlhausen integral method.

Instabilities of convection rolls in a fluid of moderate Prandtl number
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1979The instabilities of two-dimensional convection rolls in a horizontal fluid layer heated from below are investigated in the case when the Prandtl number is seven or lower. Two new mechanisms of instability are described theoretically as well as experimentally.

Ludwig Prandtl and Early Fluid Dynamics in the Netherlands
2000The influence of Ludwig Prandtl on the early development of fluid dynamics in the Netherlands is described from a viewpoint determined by the author’s experience as professor in aircraft aerodynamics at Delft Aerospace. Since J.M. Burgers can be considered as the “father of fluid dynamics” in the Netherlands, the personal contacts between Prandtl and ...

Decaying turbulence in a stratified fluid of high Prandtl number
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2019Decaying turbulence in a density-stratified fluid with a Prandtl number up to $Pr=70$ is investigated by direct numerical simulation. In turbulent flow with a Prandtl number larger than unity, it is well known that the passive scalar fluctuations cascade to scales smaller than the Kolmogorov scale, and show the $k^{-1}$ spectrum in the viscous ...

Recent Advances in Computational Science and Engineering, 2002
The present work considered fluid circulation in an annular region between two cylinders with the inner cylinder heated and rotating. The Prandtl number (Pr) considered here varies from 0.01 to 1.0 and Rayleigh number (Ra) is of the order of 105. Reynolds number Re in the range of 0 to 1120 was considered.

On the time-dependent convective heat transfer in fluids with vanishing prandtl number
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1969Abstract Analytical solutions are presented for the transient heat transfer in forced convection flow over a curved wall when the Prandtl number is zero. The wall is subjected to either a variation in temperature or a variation in the heat flux. As an application, the solutions are computed for the case of wedge flows.

Coriolis effect on convection for a low Prandtl number fluid
International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2004Abstract The problem of finite-amplitude thermal convection in a horizontal layer of a low Prandtl number heated from below and rotating about a vertical axis is studied. Linear stability and weak non-linear theories are used to investigate analytically the Coriolis effect on gravity-driven convection.

Ludwig Prandtl: Pioneer of Fluid Mechanics and Science Manager
2020Ludwig Prandtl (1875–1953) is celebrated as a pioneer of modern fluid mechanics. Prandtl’s boundary layer theory, his mixing length approach in the theory of turbulence and numerous other notions and theories that have been named after him provide evidence for his enduring impact in science and technology.

Rayleigh-Benard Convection in High Prandtl Number Fluid
1981Rayleigh Benard convection has been subjected to many experimental and theoretical studies. Through sophisticated and precise methods allowing quantitative measurements of various parameters, the properties of the steady state are now well understood.
