Theoretical Assessment of the Sodium Pool Fire's Burning Rate in an Open Environment
An evaporation‐based model is developed for sodium pool fires. Experiments demonstrate that the burning rate increases with pool diameter and approaches a quasi‐saturated limit (∼0.013 kg m−2 s−1) governed by oxidation product conversion. ABSTRACT The burning rate of sodium pool fires is a critical parameter for assessing fire development and ...

ABSTRACT Hydraulic activation of stomata (HAS), driven by hygroscopic salt films on leaf surfaces, can create an additional pathway for water loss beyond conventional stomatal vapour diffusion, yet this process remains largely overlooked in studies of plant–atmosphere interactions.

The Curious Life of Walter Lode
ABSTRACT This paper is intended to serve as a supplement to the work [PAMM ‐ Proceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics 24, no. 2 (2024): e202400004] to underline the significance of the Lode angle and Lode parameter—concepts attributed to Walter Lode—for the development of modern plasticity theory.

Heat transfer in drop-laden low-Prandtl-number channel turbulence [PDF]
In this work, we numerically investigate heat transfer in low-Prandtl-number drop-laden wall-bounded turbulence. These flows are characteristic of nuclear and fusion technologies, where liquid metals - known for their high thermal conductivity - are ...

Prandtl number effects in convective turbulence
The effect of Prandtl number on the dynamics of a convective turbulent flow is studied by numerical experiments. In particular, three series of experiments have been performed; in two of them the Rayleigh number spanned about two decades while the ...

This study develops a gradient‐based multi‐start Nelder–Mead optimization framework for Casson‐micropolar blood‐analog nanofluid flow with gold nanoparticles in a convectively heated, exothermic microchannel, motivated by photothermal drug delivery. Spectral collocation solves coupled momentum, microrotation, and energy equations, from which entropy ...

An asymptotic solution for large Prandtl number free convection
The set of ordinary differential equations governing free convection boundary layer flow past an isothermal semi-infinite vertical flat plate is solved for large Prandtl numbers by means of the method of matched asymptotic expansions.

The current study investigated unsteady boundary layer flow of a Cu/H2O$$ \mathrm{Cu}/{\mathrm{H}}_2\mathrm{O} $$ nanofluid over an expanding sheet embedded in a Darcy porous medium, containing gyrotactic microorganisms. The model includes heat source effects, unsteadiness, buoyancy, slip conditions, and nanoparticle radius.
