Evaluation of Chemical Weed-Control Strategies for Common Vetch (Vicia sativa L.) and Sweet White Lupine (Lupinus albus L.) Under Field Conditions

open access: yesAgronomy
Seed production of common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) and sweet white lupine (Lupinus albus L.) is risky due to weed infestation as few herbicides are permitted for use in crops.

Pro‐197 mutations confer resistance to thiencarbazone but not to foramsulfuron in ALS‐resistant Poa annua populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Foramsulfuron remains effective on Pro‐197 Poa annua, but co‐formulation with thiencarbazone reduces efficacy due to limited activity and antagonism. Therefore, foramsulfuron + thiencarbazone should be used in fields without ALS‐resistant weeds to ensure effective in‐crop control.

Persistence of PPO mutations and dynamics of Amaranthus palmeri resistance to PPO‐inhibitor herbicides in a decade

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Over a decade, Arkansas Amaranthus palmeri populations maintained resistance to PPO‐inhibiting herbicides. PPO2 mutations relate to shifts in herbicide resistance patterns over time. Abstract BACKGROUND Amaranthus is a highly troublesome weed genera globally.

Effects of elevated CO2 and temperature on cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium L.) and its herbicide response

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Elevated CO2 promotes the growth of Xanthium strumarium while increasing its susceptibility to the systemic herbicide trifloxysulfuron‐sodium. The efficacy of the soil‐active herbicide fluometuron remains unaffected by changes in CO2 concentration and temperature.

2‐Amino‐3H‐phenoxazin‐3‐one is a lead inhibitor of Cuscuta campestris early development: structure–activity relationships of o‐aminophenol‐derived allelochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Phenoxazinones caused differential types of phytotoxic effects in C. campestris early development. APO is a coherent lead inhibiting C. campestris germination and early seedling growth. Abstract BACKGROUND 2‐Amino‐3H‐phenoxazin‐3‐one (synonym: questiomycin A; abbreviated as APO or Phx‐3) is a naturally occurring phenoxazinone‐type allelochemical with ...

Sublethal herbicide exposure alters cotton susceptibility to aphid infestation

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Sublethal herbicide exposure altered cotton susceptibility to aphids. Aphid severity was highest when applications occurred at early vegetative stages and declined as the crop matured. In glasshouse, herbicide effects were dose‐dependent. Abstract BACKGROUND Herbicides remain vital tools for weed control, yet their effects can extend beyond weeds to ...

From knowledge to action: the importance of characterizing herbicide resistance mechanisms for implementing management strategies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This review bridges the gap between understanding resistance mechanisms and applying them in weed management, highlighting how mechanistic insights reveal vulnerabilities that can guide more effective control strategies. Abstract Herbicide resistance remains one of the most intensively studied areas in weed science because of its direct consequences ...

Selectivity and Efficacy of Herbicides Applied in Pre-Emergence in Cassava Crop

open access: yesIEEE Access
The presence of weeds at the beginning of cultivation can negatively affect cassava productivity because of the slow initial development of the crop. To minimize weed interference, pre-emergence herbicides can be used, provided they are selective to crops.
