Chitosan as a flocculant for pre-hydrolysis liquor of kraft-based dissolving pulp production process
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2011Abstract In this work, the flocculation concept was employed to recover the dissolved lignocellulosic materials of industrially produced pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL) using two different molecular weights of chitosan. The analysis revealed the maximum turbidity of 1000 NTU or 1900 NTU via adding 2.2 mg/g low molecular weight (LMW) or 1.7 mg/g high ...

Herein, bacterial cellulose (BC) was synthesized by acetobacter xylinum via organic acid pre-hydrolysis liquor of agricultural corn stalk used as carbon source. Acetic acid was applied to pretreat the corn stalk, then, the prehydrolysate was detoxified by sequential steps of activated carbon and ion exchange resin treatment prior to use as carbon ...

Abstract Hemicelluloses are the main organics dissolved in the pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL) of the kraft-based dissolving pulp production process. In this study, two methods were employed to isolate the hemicelluloses from industrial PHL samples. The results showed that the hemicelluloses, precipitated in ethanol after an acidification step (Method 2),

Abstract Pre-hydrolysis Liquor (PHL) is an aqueous stream containing dissolved organics, produced in the pre-hydrolysis kraft (PHK)-based dissolving pulp production process. Hemicelluloses (6 wt.%) and acetic acid (1 wt.%) present in the PHL can be used or recovered as valuable products, instead of being used as fuel for recovery boiler operation. In

Abstract In this study, the effect of traditional acidification and hydrothermal acid hydrolysis on the separation of lignin and xylose from the pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL) of kraft pulping process was comparatively evaluated. The PHL was acidified at room temperature or hydrothermally treated under acidic conditions to isolate lignin and xylose.

A feasible approach was developed to produce furfural from the pre-hydrolysis liquor of corncob via biochar catalysts as the solid acid catalyst in a new biphasic system with dichloromethane (DCM) as the organic phase and the concentrated pre-hydrolysis liquor (CPHL) containing NaCl as the aqueous phase.

Acetic acid was one of the main compositions of the pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL), which was recovered by reactive extraction with triisooctylamine (TIOA) diluted with decanol. Dilution of TIOA played an important role in extracting acetic acid from the PHL.

In this work, we aimed at adsorbing the oligo-sugars of prehydrolysis liquor on precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) to produce modified PCC. The results showed that the adsorptions of oligo-sugars, lignin and furfural were greater on porous PCC (PCC2) than on nano-sized PCC (PCC1) due to the larger surface area of PCC2.

Abstract Dissolving pulps could be considered as the future biorefineries, which normally generate liquor during the wood chip pre-hydrolysis (PHL). PHL has high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Mills do not have efficient means for disposal of PHL, being in general burned in the recovery boiler with a ...
