High‐Resolution and Real‐Time In Situ Generation of Cellular Spheroids by Laser‐Assisted Bioprinting for Guided Microvascularization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐injection laser‐assisted bioprinting enables ultrafast and precise patterning of small endothelial cell spheroids by injecting a highly concentrated single‐cell suspension into GelMA/ColMA hydrogels. In co‐culture with fibroblasts, controlled pre‐vasculogenic network formation is obtained at microscale resolution.

Capacity Increase for Existing Steel Bridges Using Prestressed Cables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the present study, a practical approach is proposed for geometric nonlinear analysis of existing steel bridges. The approach is defined by finite element displacement direct rigidity procedure, which is based on an iterative procedure.

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF BOWSTRING BRIDGES WITH STRESS RIBBON TIE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper the conceptual design of tied-arch bridges is examined. A proposal for a particular kind of bowstring bridges, with an upper deck and a stress ribbon footbridge placed between the arch footings is discussed. The double structure allows to

Characterization of a Solar Sail Membrane for Abaqus-Based Simulations

open access: yesAerospace
Photonic solar sails are a class of advanced propellantless propulsion systems that use thin, large, lightweight membranes to convert the momentum of light from the Sun into thrust for space navigation.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Condition assessment of pre-tensioning prestressed concrete sleepers distressed by internal swelling reactions (ISR)

open access: yesCement
Concrete sleepers worldwide have been affected by internal swelling reactions (ISR), primarily alkali-silica reaction (ASR) and internal sulfate attack (ISA).

Color Routing and Beam Steering of Single‐Molecule Emission with a Spherical Silicon Nanoantenna

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We experimentally demonstrate broadband directional emission from single molecules using a single spherical silicon nanoparticle assembled via DNA origami. By varying nanoparticle (NP) size and emitter position, we achieve unidirectional emission, beam steering, and color routing at the nanoscale, revealing modal interference as the underlying ...

Assessment of key parameters on the performance of the deltoid muscle in reverse shoulder arthroplasty – a modeling and simulation based study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), in which anatomic concavities of glenohumeral (GH) joint are inverted, is a popular treatment of arthritic shoulders with deficient rotator cuff.

A Novel Full-Tension Crossed Cable-Truss Structure: Feasible Design and Forming Method

open access: yesBuildings
In order to avoid the instability of compression support in annular space cable truss structures, a novel full-tension crossed cable-truss structure (FCCTS) is studied.
