Performance of an optical detector preamplifier

The possibility for improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio of a Doppler lidar has been deduced theoretically and shown experimentally. An optical amplifier has been built up and integrated into a Doppler lidar. The measured improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio has been compared with the calculated value.

A circuit is given for a simple valve-transistor direct-coupled preamplifier of very high input impedance, useful for the measurement of mass spectrometer ion currents. The noise and drift after warm-up are below 10-14 A through the 1011 ohm input resistor.

Design of a VHF Preamplifier

In this paper a general method is brought out for the design of a preamplifier to be used in VHF range. Adoption of this method simplifies in obtaining good signal to noise ratio without heavy loss or gain. The preamplifier discussed in this paper is designed for the back scatter radar operating at 54·95 MHz.
