Stereoselective Total Synthesis of α‐Galacto‐Oligosaccharides Using Boron‐Mediated Aglycon Delivery and Evaluation of their Immune‐Enhancing Activities

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
This study reports the total synthesis of α‐galacto‐oligosaccharides (α‐GOSs) 1‐6 with different galactose chain lengths was achieved by the boron‐mediated aglycon delivery , and their immune‐enhancing activities in macrophage J774.1 cells. The results indicate that α‐GOS 2 exhibits the highest promotion of macrophage phagocytosis and increasing ...

Purine Chemistry in the Early RNA World at the Origins of Life: From RNA and Nucleobases Lesions to Current Key Metabolic Routes

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
In the nascent processes of the beginnings and evolution of life, nucleobases and especially purines, ribonucleos(t)ides and primitive RNAs have been continuously modified. A RNA‐peptide world and key metabolic pathways probably have emerged from the corresponding chemical modifications resulting from adenine deamination, purine alkylation and ...

Probiotics and prebiotics in dermatology

open access: yesJournal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2014
The rapid increase in the medical use of probiotics and prebiotics in recent years has confirmed their excellent safety profile. As immune modulators, they have been used in inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis. We review the literature regarding the use of probiotics and prebiotics in dermatology. Probiotics and prebiotics appear to

Evaluation of AOAC‐Method 2017.16: Detection of Oligosaccharides as Low Molecular Weight Soluble Dietary Fiber

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives In many countries, the Codex Alimentarius definition of dietary fiber has been adopted with the optional inclusion of oligosaccharides with a degree of polymerization (dp) of ≥ 3. These oligosaccharides are usually captured as low molecular weight soluble dietary fiber (LMWSDF). The suitability of the AOAC‐method 2017.

The role of pulses in improving human health: A review

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 4, Issue 4, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Public health concerns are discussed so frequently that it is beginning to cause desensitization. And yet, rates of chronic disease remain alarmingly high worldwide—or are even increasing. Primary prevention is essential to reverse these trends.

In vitro fermentability of prebiotic oligosaccharides by lactobacilli

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2011
Twelve strains of lactobacilli were tested for their growth and ability to utilise six prebiotics (pure substances and commercially available prebiotics) as a sole carbon source. All strains showed a considerable growth on all prebiotics tested.
