On Precedents in General and in a Statutory Legal System

open access: yesStudia Iuridica Lublinensia, 2018
The article touches upon the issue of precedent (in both the codified law and common law systems) as a source of law. The author presents concepts of the law philosophers, often contradictory to one another, which refer to the understanding of the very ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Precedent as an Element of Shaping Public Administration Policies

open access: yesStudia Iuridica Lublinensia, 2018
The aim of this publication is to answer the question why and to what extent the arguments expressed in previous decisions issued in the result of law application processes (precedents) – both from the administration itself as well as from the judiciary –

Originalist Theory and Precedent: A Public Meaning Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Much ink has already been spilled on the relationship of constitutional originalism to precedent (or, more specifically, the doctrine of stare decisis). The debate includes contributions from Randy Barnett, Steven Calabresi, Kurt Lash, Gary Lawson, John ...

A terminal molybdenum carbide prepared by methylidyne deprotonation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The carbide anion [CMo{N(R)Ar}_3]– [R = C(CD_3)_2CH_3, Ar = C_6H_3Me_2-3,5], is obtained by deprotonation of the corresponding methylidyne compound, [HCMo{N(R)Ar}_3], and is characterized by X-ray diffraction as its {K(benzo-15-crown-5)_2}+ salt, thereby

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The gem hidden behind Predictability: Discussing efficiency in and of Investment arbitration [PDF]

open access: yesPravni Zapisi
The paper discusses the status quo regarding efficiency in investment arbitration and suggests how predictability of the arbitral outcome can improve both efficiency in and of investment arbitration. First, the paper will address the cost and duration of

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

open access: yes, 2013
One test of whether a scholarly work has achieved canonical status is to ask respected scholars in the field which works, setting aside their own, are essential reads.
