Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

RACIAL SEGREGATION AS A MANIFESTATION OF IDEOLOGICAL EXTREMISM: THE EXAMPLE OF THE CASE “PLESSY V. FERGUSON” [PDF]

open access: yesLegal Bulletin
Relevance. The topic of racial segregation and the struggle for civil rights in the United States continues to be relevant. Precedential decisions of the US Supreme Court on issues of racial segregation still influence the development of American society

Impeachment as Congressional Constitutional Interpretation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Katyal argues that one can adhere to originalism in the context of judicial interpretation and, nevertheless, believe in a broader style of interpretation for the legislature. He illustrates the point with three examples--the roles of history, precedent,

A New Basis Function Approach to 't Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We analytically and numerically investigate the 't Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller equations, the lowest order mesonic Light-Front Tamm-Dancoff equations for U(N_C) and SU(N_C) gauge theories.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

The Evolution of Precedent [PDF]

open access: yes
We evaluate Richard Posner's famous hypothesis that common law converges to efficient legal rules using a model of precedent setting by appellate judges. Following legal realists, we assume that judicial decisions are subject to personal biases, and that

Habeas Corpus: Fourth Circuit Allows Writ to Issue to State Prisoner Not Yet Serving Sentence Under Attack [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
By manipulating the concept of custody to include the legal effects of a conviction precedent to service of sentence, the Fourth Circuit has extended the use of the writ of habeas corpus into new and perhaps questionable ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...
