Spinning gyroscope in an acoustic black hole: precession effects and observational aspects

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
The exact precession frequency of a freely-precessing test gyroscope is derived for a $$2+1$$ 2+1 dimensional rotating acoustic black hole analogue spacetime, without making the somewhat unrealistic assumption that the gyroscope is static.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Interpreting Precession‐Driven δ18O Variability in the South Asian Monsoon Region

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2018
Speleothem records from the South Asian summer monsoon (SASM) region display variability in the ratio of 18O and 16O (δ18O) in calcium carbonate at orbital frequencies.

Distinguishing Kerr naked singularities and black holes using the spin precession of a test gyro in strong gravitational fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We study here the precession of the spin of a test gyroscope attached to a stationary observer in the Kerr spacetime, specifically, to distinguish naked singularity (NS) from black hole (BH).

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Impact of eccentricity on regional aridity-humidity variations

open access: yes地球与行星物理论评
Climatic aridity-humidity variations on orbital timescales are crucial for understanding the Earth's climate system response mechanisms. Investigating the relationship between orbital-scale eccentricity cycles and aridity-humidity changes helps clarify ...

Precession-driven dynamos in a full sphere and the role of large scale cyclonic vortices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Precession has been proposed as an alternative power source for planetary dynamos. Previous hydrodynamic simulations suggested that precession can generate very complex flows in planetary liquid cores [Y. Lin, P. Marti, and J.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...
