Voltage-controlled spin precession [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2011
A recent experiment reports a non-local spin-signal that shows oscillatory behavior as a function of gate voltage when the contacts are magnetized along the direction of current flow, but not when they are magnetized perpendicular to the current, in agreement with the predictions from a simple theory.

Precession modulation of the South Pacific westerly wind belt over the past million years

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance The southern westerly wind belt interacts with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and strongly impacts the Southern Ocean carbon budget, and Antarctic ice-sheet dynamics across glacial–interglacial cycles. We investigated precipitation-driven

On the different flavours of Lense-Thirring precession around accreting stellar mass black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Type-C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in X-ray binaries have been often interpreted as a consequence of relativistic Lense–Thirring precession around a spinning black hole and they potentially offer a way to measure black hole spins and masses.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Comparison of Libration- and Precession-Driven Flows: From Linear Responses to Broadband Dynamics

open access: yesFluids
Libration and precession are different body forces that are ubiquitous in many rapidly rotating systems, particularly in geophysical and astrophysical flows.

Are Bipolar Jets Precessing? [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1986
No one has drawn attention as to whether bipolar jets precess or not. We examine here the possibility of precession of bipolar jets from a theoretical point of view (Fukue and Yokoo 1986).We first characterize various models proposed for bipolar jets in the light of precession. That is, can they admit precession? If they can, how long is a precessional

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Phenomenological model for the gravitational-wave signal from precessing binary black holes with two-spin effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The properties of compact binaries, such as masses and spins, are imprinted in the gravitational-waves they emit and can be measured using parameterised waveform models.

Distinguishing Kerr naked singularities and black holes using the spin precession of a test gyro in strong gravitational fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We study here the precession of the spin of a test gyroscope attached to a stationary observer in the Kerr spacetime, specifically, to distinguish naked singularity (NS) from black hole (BH).

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.
