Comparison of two extreme rainfall/snowfall and freezing weather events during the Spring Festival transportation period in 2024

open access: yes暴雨灾害
From January 31 to February 6 (P1, hereinafter) and from February 19 to February 25, 2024 (P2, hereinafter), China experienced two large-scale and sustained low temperature, rainfall/snowfall, and freezing weather events, which seriously affected the ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Computational Modeling Studies of Fundamental Aerosol-Cloud Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Basic questions regarding the interaction between changes in human activity and the atmosphere remain unanswered. Among these, the link between aerosol particles and cloud formation and development, especially in an altered climate, is a large point of ...

Characteristics of the precipitation phase during a rainfall/snowfall and freezing event in northern and central Henan

open access: yes暴雨灾害
At the end of 2023, a large-scale rainfall/snowfall and freezing event occurred in northern and central Henan, featuring variable precipitation phases and accompanied by regional thunderstorms, which was relatively rare.

Isothermal omega Assisted Alpha Phase Precipitation and Microstructural Evolution of an Aged Ti-30Nb-3Fe Alloy [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2020
The mechanical behavior of metastable β Ti alloys can be controlled through heat treatments. Thus, the relationship between the precipitation of α phase and the mechanical properties of these alloys is of special interest.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The electric field response to the growth phase and expansion phase onset of a small isolated substorm [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
International audienceWe capitalise on the very large field of view of the Halley HF radar to provide a comprehensive description of the electric field response to the substorm growth phase and expansion phase onset of a relatively simple isolated ...

Laves phase precipitation in Fe-Ta alloys

open access: yesMetallurgical Transactions, 1972
Development of an iron-base alloy hardened by particles of an intermetallic compound rather than a carbide is a desirable goal because of the greater thermal stability of such a dispersion. As a first step in the development of iron-base alloys hardened with the Laves phase, structural studies of binary Fe-Ta alloys have been undertaken. The structures
