The Precipitin Test in Elucidating the Cause of Death

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1957
It is incumbent on every pathologist, whether forensic or not, to use every facility in his means in order to study and elucidate the cause of death. Precipitin technics have been used for this purpose only to a slight degree. These technics have the advantage of simplicity and, except for cross-reacting antigen-antibody systems, precipitin reactions ...

The candida precipitin test in an immunosuppressed population

Cancer, 1979
Ninety-one immunosuppressed, high-risk patients suspected of having invasive candidiasis were tested during their septic episode for the presence of candida precipitin (CP) antibody using the counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE) method. In 12 patients, systemic candidiasis was confirmed but only 6 of these (50%) had candida precipitins.

A micro-procedure for quantitative precipitin tests

Journal of Immunological Methods, 1978
A new method for the quantitative analysis of antigens and antibodies has been based on (1) ultrafiltration of the antigen-antibody precipitates through silver membranes of 0.2 micrometer pore size in a specially designed multisample apparatus, and (2) spectrophotometric determination at 210 nm of the amount of proteins in the antigen-antibody ...

PRECIPITIN TESTS FOR AUTO‐IMMUNIZING THYROIDITIS

Australasian Annals of Medicine, 1960
SummaryThe results of precipitin and flocculation tests on the serum of 76 patients with thyroid disease are presented and discussed. A positive precipitin reaction to thyroid extract indicates that, at one time or other, the patient has become sensitized to thyroglobulin.A thyroid precipitin test employing normal electrophoretic equipment is described.

Slide Gel Diffusion Precipitin Test

Nature, 1958
A MODIFICATION of the plate gel diffusion test1 is proposed, carried out on microscope slides. The use of a thin layer of media on the slide, together with a reduction in the distance between antigen and antibody basins, resulted in an earlier appearance of the reaction.

A view on the equivalence point in the precipitin test

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1976
Abstract The equivalence point is defined as the mixing ratio of antibody to antigen at which the sum of the number of moles of antigen and that of antibody reaches a minimum in the supernatant. Under this definition, an attempt is made to explain the phenomenon of equivalence in the precipitin test.

A Precipitin Test for Typhoid Fever

Nature, 1943
TREATMENT of typhoid fever with the serum from convalescents of this disease is a well-recognized therapeutic procedure. The good results obtained are believed to be due to passive immunization, as in other forms of serum therapy. From the serological analysis of a large number of convalescent typhoid sera it was, however, observed that their antibody ...

Proteinase-dependent false positive precipitin tests

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1972
A variety of nonimmunologic precipitin-like r‘eartions have been descrilwd.l-G In double-diffusion tests in gel, lines rwcmbling precipitin reactions ha\-c been observed between B. szlbfilis alkaline proteinase preparations and the scra of normal individuals with no irltlustrial csposu~ to R. mhtilis products.‘~‘” 0bscrvations on the characteristics of

The Precipitin Test in Systemic Candidiasis

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1976
A selected population of 115 high-risk patients was studied for the correlation of precipitating Candida antibodies with systemic candidiasis. Systemic infection was demonstrated histologically in 69 patients. Positive precipitin reactions were found in 72 patients, 65 of which were true-positive and seven of which were false-positive.
