Three-Dimensional Spheroids as In Vitro Preclinical Models for Cancer Research
Most cancer biologists still rely on conventional two-dimensional (2D) monolayer culture techniques to test in vitro anti-tumor drugs prior to in vivo testing.

Data augmentation and multimodal learning for predicting drug response in patient-derived xenografts from gene expressions and histology images [PDF]
Patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) are an appealing platform for preclinical drug studies because the in vivo environment of PDXs helps preserve tumor heterogeneity and usually better mimics drug response of patients with cancer compared to CCLs. We investigate multimodal neural network (MM-Net) and data augmentation for drug response prediction in PDXs.

Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Phase 1 Safety and Tolerability Study of BMP-7 in Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis [PDF]
BACKGROUND: There are no proven therapies that modify the structural changes associated with osteoarthritis (OA). Preclinical data suggests that intra-articular recombinant human BMP-7 (bone morphogenetic protein-7) has reparative effects on cartilage ...

Preclinical Models of Restenosis and Their Application in the Evaluation of Drug-Eluting Stent Systems [PDF]
Coronary arterial disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, the European Union, and Canada. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has revolutionized the treatment of CAD, and it is the advent of drug-eluting stent (DES) systems that has effectively allayed much of the challenge of restenosis that has plagued the success of ...

Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

TGF‐β has a complex role in cancer, exhibiting both tumor‐suppressive and tumor‐promoting properties. Using a series of differentiated tumoroids, derived from different stages and mutational background of colorectal cancer patients, we replicate this duality of TGF‐β in vitro. Notably, the atypical but highly aggressive KRASQ22K mutation rendered early‐
