The Argentine Precordillera: A foreland thrust belt proximal to the subducted plate [PDF]

open access: yesGeosphere, 2014
The Precordillera thrust belt of western Argentina is anomalously close, both horizontally and vertically, to the coeval subduction zone of the Nazca plate. The thin-skinned part of the belt has an unusually deep decollement that is well defined by industry seismic reflection and recent broadband experiments.

The Late Neoproterozoic-Early Paleozoic basin of the western Argentine Precordillera: Insights from zircon U-Pb geochronology

open access: yes, 2020
In central-western Argentina, a belt including marine metasedimentary rocks and mafic-ultramafic bodies occurs throughout the western margin of the Precordillera. The belt is considered as the suture zone between the poorly known Chilenia terrane and the

Implications of Flat‐Slab Subduction on Hydration, Slab Seismicity, and Arc Volcanism in the Pampean Region of Chile and Argentina

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract The Pampean flat slab in central Chile and Argentina is characterized by the inland migration and subsequent cessation of arc volcanism since the mid‐Miocene. Slab flattening also affects the distribution and number of intermediate‐depth earthquakes and the evolution of the overlying continental thermal structure.

Crustal seismicity in the Andean Precordillera of Argentina using seismic broadband data

open access: yes, 2020
In this study, we analyze 100 crustal Precordilleran earthquakes recorded in 2008 and 2009 by 52 broadband seismic stations from the SIEMBRA and ESP, two temporary experiments deployed in the Pampean flat slab region, between the Andean Cordillera and ...
