Coexistence in a predator-prey system

Physical Review E, 2001
We propose a lattice model of two populations, predators and prey. The model is solved via Monte Carlo simulations. Each species moves randomly on the lattice and can live only a certain time without eating. The lattice cells are either grass (eaten by prey) or tree (giving cover for prey). Each animal has a reserve of food that is increased by eating (

On the entropy of the predator-prey model

2014 IEEE International Systems Conference Proceedings, 2014
In this paper a characterization of the new concept of entropy of a dynamic system is discussed. A new graphical approach is used to quickly get a feeling of the local nonlinearity of planar dynamical systems. A user-friendly tool in MATLAB/Simulink has been designed in order to automatize computation of the entropy and easy visualization as color maps.

Diffusion and the Predator-Prey Interaction

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1977
We consider the system of partial differential equations which describe the predator-prey interaction, where diffusion and spatial dependence are taken into account. The equations reduce to the Kolmogorov equations, when spatial dependence is neglected.

Predator–Prey Molecular Ecosystems

ACS Nano, 2012
Biological organisms use intricate networks of chemical reactions to control molecular processes and spatiotemporal organization. In turn, these living systems are embedded in self-organized structures of larger scales, for example, ecosystems. Synthetic in vitro efforts have reproduced the architectures and behaviors of simple cellular circuits ...

Predator prey molecular landscapes

Advances in Artificial Life, ECAL 2013, 2013
This paper describes the use of molecular programming techniques to build synthetic in vitro and spatially distributed reactions networks with tailored topologies. The basic workflow is to use synthetic DNA strands to encode the topologies of molecular interactions of the reaction network.

Predator—Prey Models of Fisheries

1997
In another form of renewable resource depletion models, we use a biological predator–prey model with the economics of an optimal use path. We find that over the long run, the fishery rises and collapses repeatedly over the long term. We change the model to accommodate the concept of capital turnover costs.

DYNAMICS OF MODIFIED PREDATOR-PREY MODELS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2010
Besides being structurally unstable, the Lotka–Volterra predator-prey model has another shortcoming due to the invalidity of the principle of mass action when the populations are very small. This leads to extremely large populations recovering from unrealistically small ones.

A model of the predator-prey relationship

Theoretical Population Biology, 1974
Abstract A general nonlinear model of the predator-prey relationship is proposed. The model is justified on biological grounds and its parameters are constrained to reasonable biological values. Analytical and graphical methods are used to classify and to analyze the equilibrium points of the model.

The hydra effect in predator–prey models

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2011
The seemingly paradoxical increase of a species population size in response to an increase in its mortality rate has been observed in several continuous-time and discrete-time models. This phenomenon has been termed the "hydra effect". In light of the fact that there is almost no empirical evidence yet for hydra effects in natural and laboratory ...
