On a Kind of Predator-Prey System
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1989Summary: In this paper a kind of predator-prey system given by \textit{S. B. Hsu}, \textit{S. P. Hubbel} and \textit{P. Waltman} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 35, 617-625 (1978; Zbl 0394.92025)] is considered. Utilizing the theory of ordinary differential equations, two theorems for a general predator-prey system are proved, completing the investigation of the ...

Optimal Foraging and Predator–Prey Dynamics
Theoretical Population Biology, 1996A system consisting of a population of predators and two types of prey is considered. The dynamics of the system is described by differential equations with controls. The controls model how predators forage on each of the two types of prey. The choice of these controls is based on the standard assumption in the theory of optimal foraging which requires

Behavioral refuges and predator–prey coexistence
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2013The effects of a behavioral refuge caused either by the predator optimal foraging or prey adaptive antipredator behavior on the Gause predator-prey model are studied. It is shown that both of these mechanisms promote predator-prey coexistence either at an equilibrium, or along a limit cycle.

On a predator–prey system of Gause type
Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2009In this paper a Gause type model of interactions between predator and prey population is considered. We deal with the sufficient condition due to Kuang and Freedman in the generalized form including a kind of weight function. In a previous paper we proved that the existence of such weight function implies the uniqueness of limit cycle.

Biocontrol in an impulsive predator–prey model
Mathematical Biosciences, 2014We study a model for biological pest control (or "biocontrol") in which a pest population is controlled by a program of periodic releases of a fixed yield of predators that prey on the pest. Releases are represented as impulsive increases in the predator population. Between releases, predator-pest dynamics evolve according to a predator-prey model with

Historically, many of the models of the natural world, both marine and terrestrial, have involved only a single species, conceptually separating the species of interest from its environment. In fact, species are in continuous contact with other organisms and their physical environment.

A predator is an organism that eats another organism. A prey is an organism that a predator eats. In ecology, a predation is a biological interaction where a predator feeds on a prey. Predation occurs in a wide variety of scenarios, for instance in wild life interactions (lions hunting zebras, foxes hunting rabbits), in herbivore–plant interactions ...

Predation is a widespread population process that has evolved many times within the metazoa. It can affect the distribution, abundance, and dynamics of species in ecosystems. For instance, the distribution of western tussock moth is known to be affected by a parasitic wasp (Maron and Harrison, 1997; Hastings et al., 1998), the abundance of different ...
