Some Insects Are More Equal Than Others: A Comparison of Popular Large Language Model Chatbots' Treatment of Different Insect Groups 昆虫间的不平等——主流大语言模型 (LLM) 对不同昆虫评价的比较研究

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
Our research demonstrates that in mirroring prevailing human biases towards different insect groups, LLM chatbots oversimplify insect diversity by predominantly restricting “bees” to honeybees and “wasps” to yellowjackets, neglecting the majority of biodiversity that includes wild bees and parasitoid wasps, while also favouring Nearctic species in ...

Applying Bergmann's Rule to Species Conservation Planning 贝格曼法则在物种保护规划中的应用

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
Although Bergman's rule has extensively been studied, its implications in species conservation have not been clear, especially in the context of climate change (global warming). Here, we discuss the potential applications of the “rule” based on IUCN's (2022) Red List and suggest species' body size to be an important ecological indicator in future long ...

All‐in‐one optical microfiber with an interface for MRSA in biofilms: Integrating rapid quantitative analysis and synergistic antimicrobial therapy

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
Aiming at the management of MRSA biofilms, an all‐in‐one optical microfiber that integrated rapid quantitative analysis with synergistic antimicrobial therapy is developed. The prepared interfacial‐functionalized optical microfiber demonstrates the ability to detect MRSA concentrations in infection sites, enhance therapeutic efficacy, and assess ...

Emotion regulation difficulties and differences in autism including demand‐avoidant presentations—A clinical review of research and models, and a proposed conceptual formulation: Neural‐preferencing locus of control (NP‐LOC)

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Emotion regulation (ER) difficulties and differences in autism are well documented in both research and clinical literature, negatively impacting well‐being for autistic young people. Emotion dysregulation can significantly decrease access to opportunities to learn life skills and increase the risk of mental health problems in adulthood.

Predicting pup‐rearing habitat for Mexican wolves

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We developed predictive models of pup‐rearing habitat (i.e., den and rendezvous sites) that could help guide future population monitoring efforts of Mexican wolves. Mexican wolves selected den sites at higher elevations in steeper and rougher terrain that was closer to permanent waterbodies but farther from rural roads, whereas selection of rendezvous ...

Evaluating occurrence and abundance of displaying male American woodcock (Scolopax minor) north of the current Singing‐Ground Survey range

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
The American Woodcock Singing‐Ground Survey (SGS) may not cover all available woodcock breeding range, particularly in more northern regions. Using SGS data collected in Canada between 2000 and 2019, we evaluated the relationship between 16 landscape covariates and male woodcock occurrence and abundance and we developed a predictive map to identify ...

Enhancing performance of detection dog field surveys through experimental transects

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We evaluated performance parameters for a scat detection dog through assessment transects and compared these results with field survey data from the same dog‐team over a 4‐year period. From this, we derived valuable insights into the suitability of assessment transects for dog evaluation and how they can inform field performance.
