Hybrid predictive coding: Inferring, fast and slow.
Predictive coding is an influential model of cortical neural activity. It proposes that perceptual beliefs are furnished by sequentially minimising "prediction errors"-the differences between predicted and observed data.

Prediction and memory: A predictive coding account
The hippocampus is crucial for episodic memory, but it is also involved in online prediction. Evidence suggests that a unitary hippocampal code underlies both episodic memory and predictive processing, yet within a predictive coding framework the hippocampal-neocortical interactions that accompany these two phenomena are distinct and opposing.

Hierarchical predictive coding in distributed pain circuits
Predictive coding is a computational theory on describing how the brain perceives and acts, which has been widely adopted in sensory processing and motor control.

Predictive coding and religious belief
In this paper I investigate the epistemic implications of a recent theory of religious cognition that draws on predictive coding. The theory argues that certain experiences are heavily shaped by a subject’s prior (religious) beliefs and thereby makes ...

Predictive ECG coding using linear time-invariant models [PDF]
Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal compression suffers of lack of standards for analogue-digital conversion. Results of this study have shown that 8 bits/sample, although frequently in use, does not satisfy quality criteria for medical doctors.

Brain-inspired Predictive Coding Improves the Performance of Machine Challenging Tasks
Backpropagation has been regarded as the most favorable algorithm for training artificial neural networks. However, it has been criticized for its biological implausibility because its learning mechanism contradicts the human brain.

Can hierarchical predictive coding explain binocular rivalry? [PDF]
Hohwy et al.’s (2008) model of binocular rivalry (BR) is taken as a classic illustration of predictive coding’s explanatory power. I revisit the account and show that it cannot explain the role of reward in BR.

This paper reports on an efficient lossless compression method for periodic signals based on adaptive dictionary predictive coding. Some previous methods for data compression, such as difference pulse coding (DPCM), discrete cosine transform (DCT ...
