Study of a diffusion flamelet model, with preferential diffusion effects included

open access: yes, 2005
The non-premixed flamelet model of Peters [1] (model1), which does not include preferential diffusion effects is investigated. Two similar models are presented, but without the assumption of unity Lewis numbers. One of these models was derived by Peters & Pitsch [2] (model2), while the other one was derived by Delhaye [3] (model3).

Extreme role of preferential diffusion in turbulent flame propagation

Combustion and Flame, 2018
Abstract In this paper we demonstrate the essential role of molecular diffusion in the structure and propagation of turbulent flames. We first show that mixtures whose concentrations are near or beyond the conventional flammability limits can be rendered to burn strongly in turbulence, provided the controlling molecular mass diffusivity of the ...

A new preferential diffusion model applied to FGM simulations of hydrogen flames [PDF]

open access: yesCombustion Theory and Modelling, 2021
Preferential diffusion is very important in simulations of hydrogen flames. Flame stretch and curvature induce strong preferential diffusion effects in laminar premixed hydrogen flames, causing strong local deviations from the unburnt mixture fraction in

Modelling of hydrogen-blended dual-fuel combustion using flamelet-generated manifold and preferential diffusion effects [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2023
In the present study, Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes simulations together with a novel flamelet generated manifold (FGM) hybrid combustion model incorporating preferential diffusion effects is utilised for the investigation of a hydrogen-blended diesel ...

LES flamelet modeling of hydrogen combustion considering preferential diffusion effect [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2023
A flamelet-generated manifold (FGM) method that explicitly considers the preferential diffusion effect, referred to as FGM-PD method, is employed for large-eddy simulations (LESs) of a lean-premixed H2/air low-swirl lifted flame, and the validity is ...

High hydrogen content syngas fuel burning in lean premixed spherical flames at elevated pressures: Effects of preferential diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2016
This study addresses the effects of preferential diffusion on flame structure and propagation of high hydrogen content (HHC) turbulent lean premixed hydrogen-carbon monoxide syngas flames at elevated pressures.

Preferential diffusion along interphase boundaries

Acta Metallurgica, 1972
Abstract Autoradiographic evidence has been obtained which directly demonstrates that some interphase boundaries provide short-circuit paths for diffusion. The interphase β-γ2 boundaries were produced in a Cu-14.3% Al alloy by precipitation along all the grain boundaries in the specimen, thereby eliminating grain boundaries as simultaneous ...
