Preferential Diffusion and the Initiation of Lean Flames of Light Fuels

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1987
Summary: As an attempt to better understand the problem of flame initiation, we study spherical flame kernels whose evolutions are triggered by a time- dependent, localized source of energy in a lean mixture of a light fuel, a heavier oxidizer, and a diluent in large excess.

Numerical analysis of laminar diffusion flames—Effects of preferential diffusion of heat and species

Combustion and Flame, 1994
Abstract Numerical computations were made of axisymmetric laminar jet diffusion flames, taking into account detailed chemical kinetics and multicomponent diffusion. The computations are in good agreement with the experimental results of temperature and species concentration in hydrogen/methane/nitrogen fuel flames with coflowing air obtained by ...

Effects of preferential diffusion on the burning intensity of curved flames

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985
Using the Bunsen flame as a model curved flame, the coupled influence of preferential diffusion and flame stretch on the burning intensity of lean and rich mixtures of methane, propane, butane, ethylene, and hydrogen with air has been experimentally studied.

Personalized recommendation based on preferential bidirectional mass diffusion

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2017
Abstract Recommendation system provides a promising way to alleviate the dilemma of information overload. In physical dynamics, mass diffusion has been used to design effective recommendation algorithms on bipartite network. However, most of the previous studies focus overwhelmingly on unidirectional mass diffusion from collected objects to ...

Influence of Preferential Diffusion on the Stability of a Laminar Flame

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1968
The stability of a laminar flame subjected to a small perturbation is examined. The case of a reaction involving one species much lighter than the others is considered. An analysis of the basic equations governing a reactive mixture gives the dependence of the flame speed on the flame curvature. Stability criteria are then deduced.

Global Reaction Mechanism for Ethylene Flames with Preferential Diffusion

Combustion Science and Technology, 2010
Two compact global mechanisms for ethylene (C2H4) diffusion flame combustion have been tailored to include important reaction steps for acetylene and benzene production. One mechanism (G11) contains 11 species with 10 reaction steps including acetylene (C2H2), and the other mechanism (G12) contains 12 species with a total of 11 reactions steps to ...

The influence of preferential enhanced diffusion on composition changes in sputtered binary solids

Radiation Effects, 1978
Abstract The preferential sputter enrichment or depletion of a species in a binary solid is a well established experimental observation. This composition change is usually found to occur over a depth similar to that of the penetration depth of the sputtering projectile.

Preferential sputtering of binary alloys with diffusion: The equilibrium distribution

Radiation Effects, 1978
Abstract The preferential sputtering of a binary alloy is considered using diffusion theory. It is shown that this leads to non-linear-terms in both the bulk diffusion equation and the boundary conditions. The steady-state solution is investigated in detail, and the results indicate that some of the non-linearities are negligible, while others cannot ...
