Web Prefetching Control Model Based on Prefetch-Cache Interaction
2005 First International Conference on Semantics, Knowledge and Grid, 2005Web prefetching is one of the effective solutions to reducing the user perceived latency, but if not properly managed, it may consume too much network bandwidth and system resources. The side effect can partly be avoided by prefetching control. Because existing cache occupants may have to be ejected to give room for the prefetched items, the cache hit ...

Mobile app marketplaces are dominated by free apps that rely on advertising for their revenue. These apps place increased demands on the already limited battery lifetime of modern phones. For example, in the top 15 free Windows Phone apps, we found in-app advertising contributes to 65% of the app's total communication energy (or 23% of the app's total ...

Prefetching is a well-known technique for bridging the memory gap. By predicting future memory references the prefetcher can fetch data from main memory and insert it into the cache such that overall performance is increased. Modern memory controllers reorder memory requests to exploit the 3D structure of modern DRAM interfaces.

Implementing predecessor searches in static sorted sets lies at the intersection of simple, self-contained problems and useful ones. It's so simple that my introduction to data structure class started with linear and binary search. Yet, even binary search enables a compact representation of sets--always interesting for multi-GB datasets--and is a ...
