Cellulose from Softwood via Prehydrolysis and Soda/Anthraquinone Pulping
Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 1997Abstract A two stage process based on a hydrolytic pretreatment and a soda/anthraquinone pulping stage has been studied to produce bleachable-grade cellulose from residual softwood sawdust, concretely a mixture of ground spruce (Abies alba) and pine (Pinus insignis).

Study on the fluorescence properties of lignocellulosic prehydrolysis liquor
Wood Science and Technology, 2019The fluorescence properties were first probed for wood prehydrolysis liquor (PHL) in the present study. Besides fluorescence concentration quenching and pH effects, the excitation wavelength-dependent photoluminescence properties were also observed at excitation from 360 to 430 nm.

Prehydrolysis in Softwood Pulping Produces a Valuable Biorefinery Fraction for Material Utilization
Environmental Science & Technology, 2012A scaled-up prehydrolysis process was elaborated to demonstrate an industrially feasible operation step in a pulping process that generates a valuable side product in addition to the cellulose pulp. The valuable side product is aqueous process liquor, a softwood hydrolysate (SWH) herein produced in 60 L batches, and its components were recovered and ...

High consistency cellulase treatment of hardwood prehydrolysis kraft based dissolving pulp
Bioresource Technology, 2015For enzymatic treatment of dissolving pulp, there is a need to improve the process to facilitate its commercialization. For this purpose, the high consistency cellulase treatment was conducted based on the hypothesis that a high cellulose concentration would favor the interactions of cellulase and cellulose, thus improves the cellulase efficiency while

Acid prehydrolysis of pinus pinaster bark with dilute sulfuric acid
Wood Science and Technology, 1988The influence of temperature (100–150°C) and acid concentration (0–5 wt%) on the prehydrolysis of pine bark and its alkaline-extracted residues was studied (the latter were obtained by vigorously stirring the bark for 15 min with a solid/liquid ratio of 1:10).

Kinetic study of dilute-acid prehydrolysis of xylan-containing biomass
Wood Science and Technology, 1992With the current interest in chemicals production from biomas and in view of the emerging pulping processes, the hydrolysis of lignocellulosics is being considered as a promising industrial approach. Since hemicellulose is more readily hydrolyzed than cellulose, most processes include a prehydrolysis step to remove pentosans prior to the main ...

Prehydrolysis ofEucalyptus wood with dilute sulphuric acid: operation at atmospheric pressure
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1993MilledEucalyptus globulus wood samples were subjected to acid hydrolysis using H2SO4 as catalyst. The reactions were carried out in a stirred, reflux-operated batch reactor. The effects of both catalyst concentration (in the range 3.5–10%) and hydrolysis time (0–11 h) on the concentration of arabinose, glucose, xylose, acetic acid and furfural were ...

Research on the Prehydrolysis Technology of Poplar and Bamboo Dissolving Pulp
Advanced Materials Research, 2012The aims of prehydrolysis are mainly removing pentose and decreasing viscosity in the preparation process of dissolving pulp. In this paper, the effect of prehydrolysis in the preparation process of poplar and bamboo dissolving pulp were investigated under different prehydrolysis conditions.

Prehydrolysis ofEucalyptus wood with dilute sulphuric acid: operation in autoclave
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1994The production of xylose fromEucalyptus globulus wood samples in media containing sulphuric acid was studied. The prehydrolysis reactions were carried out in autoclave. All the experiments were performed with liquid/wood ratio of 10 g/g. The effects of sulphuric acid concentration (within the range 2–6%), reaction time (0–6 h) and temperature (115 or ...

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013
In this work, the adsorption of lignocelluloses of pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL) on precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) was studied in the presence of poly diallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) or cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM). The results revealed that adding PCC to PHL and subsequently adding cationic polymers to PHL/PCC systems was more ...
