COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PREHYDROLYSIS METHODS FOR VEGETAL MATERIALS
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, 2015This paper presents the results obtained using the prehydrolysis treatments of rapeseed stalks depending on regime and the catalyst. The vegetal materials were subjected under different temperature conditions and then characterized for the yield reducing substances.

SO2 prehydrolysis for high yield ethanol production from biomass
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1988The advantages of the use of SO2 in steam pretreatment are described. Two different large scale continuous reactors, the Stake and the Wenger, have been used for this purpose. Pine, aspen and corn stover were prehydrolysed by SO2 in these reactors and hydrolysed by enzymes.

Wastewater treatment plants are critical for environmental pollution control. The role that they play in protecting the environment and public health is unquestionable; however, they produce massive quantities of excess sludge as a byproduct. One pragmatic approach to utilizing excess sludge is generating methane via anaerobic digestion.

SO2-catalysed prehydrolysis of coniferous wood for ethanol production
Biotechnology Letters, 1986This paper reports studies of large scale, 1500 kg/h, SO2-catalysed prehydrolysis of coniferous wood chips, samples then being hydrolyzed by a wood-saccharifying enzyme system followed by fermentation to ethanol in the laboratory. Hemicellulose hydrolysis using SO2 catalyst (prehydrolysis) was found to be more effective than steam alone (autohydrolysis)

Characteristics of prehydrolysis-kraft pulp fibers from Scots pine
Holzforschung, 2012Abstract To clarify the influence of prehydrolysis on fiber characteristics, Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood chips were subjected to pressurized hot-water and dilute-acid prehydrolysis (0.5% H2SO4) prior to kraft pulping to partially remove hemicelluloses as hydrolyzate.

Cellulose, 2014
Aqueous-phase prehydrolysis followed by alkaline pulping is a viable process to produce wood-based dissolving pulps. However, detailed characterisation of the achievable pulp quality, performance and cellulose structure is yet lacking. In this study, the production of hemicellulose-lean birch soda-anthraquinone pulps after prehydrolysis under various ...

Cellulose from Softwood via Prehydrolysis and Soda/Anthraquinone Pulping
Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology, 1997Abstract A two stage process based on a hydrolytic pretreatment and a soda/anthraquinone pulping stage has been studied to produce bleachable-grade cellulose from residual softwood sawdust, concretely a mixture of ground spruce (Abies alba) and pine (Pinus insignis).

Study on the fluorescence properties of lignocellulosic prehydrolysis liquor
Wood Science and Technology, 2019The fluorescence properties were first probed for wood prehydrolysis liquor (PHL) in the present study. Besides fluorescence concentration quenching and pH effects, the excitation wavelength-dependent photoluminescence properties were also observed at excitation from 360 to 430 nm.

Prehydrolysis in Softwood Pulping Produces a Valuable Biorefinery Fraction for Material Utilization
Environmental Science & Technology, 2012A scaled-up prehydrolysis process was elaborated to demonstrate an industrially feasible operation step in a pulping process that generates a valuable side product in addition to the cellulose pulp. The valuable side product is aqueous process liquor, a softwood hydrolysate (SWH) herein produced in 60 L batches, and its components were recovered and ...
